My wife is aggravated about the last photo and doesn’t like it at all. She had wanted one but wasn’t going to be home when I got off work, so the idea was scrapped which disappointed her.

I made a stop on the way home to pick up some guns and a fishing item was given to me to deliver to my brother. I dropped in on him on my way home to drop off his package.

While there I remembered the photo she wanted and had my brother take it. I had everything on my mind and simply stood in front of the truck without thinking about the crossed arms or remembering to smile. She says I look mad at the world. She’s right, it’s a crappy last picture, but my mind was a million miles away at the time. She says anytime I’m not smiling I look angry. It’s the pointy eyebrows that do it, but I always figured that helped me on the streets.
Damn!
I guess you're gonna have to re-enroll and quit again!
Ah... women!

I'm going to spontaneously go to work full time starting July 18th. I can't fathom the idea of sitting at home, so I'm going to earn a paycheck while I'm still in good health. This was always my plans no matter when I walked away from policing, so I get a ten-day break and back to work I go.
Just hit the local GC every day from 9 to 5 and speak loudly about guitars.
Mostly what's wrong with them!

Scott, tell us about your new job.

I’ve always said I’d like to try working for a living before I die, so I’m going to build excavators for Komatsu. I know nothing about assembling earth movers, but I love the concept of working indoors, not dealing with the public in all their trash grandeur, not wearing twenty-five pounds of gear, and not waking up from nightmares from calls I’ve been on. Something repetitive and totally monotonous sounds like heaven to me.

Two close friends work there, and they’re pulling over $80k this year. Why not? And if I don’t like it, I’ll quit. Simple as that.

That sounds extremely interesting.... Manu industry was fun to me.... I could dance with machines all day, especially automated... I can talk to em and they never argue back.... They can occasionally get confused and sling shit but still fun... Lots more simple than it looks...

There is repetition everywhere, bud....in every job. Some things, I've found repetition soothing. Being technical, I loved troubleshooting issues to break up the repetition.... Afterwards, I could watch it run, gloat, and talk ugly to it...

Be a good feeling making your part happen perfectly and then seeing the entire finished product go out the door.... Good feeling making things happen...

Best of luck to you and I hope it turns out being fun for you...

I know it's bittersweet, but it's not the end. You've got a whole new part of life beginning. I'm happy you made it so long and that you've come out in one piece. I'm also happy you were a cop for so long. The world needs more cops like you. Best of luck on your days ahead, and thank you for all the good you've done!

I have always viewed the police as the good guys. Sure, there are some bad apples but, they are the exception not the rule. I salute you and your service to your communities. It's their loss now that you are no longer in their employ.

Cheers. Congrats.

I got tickled yesterday evening.

I took my family to a little shop that specializes in macaroons. It was blazing hot outside, which is why there was a horribly filthy, older homeless man sitting at a corner table. He was having a pretty good conversation with himself.

I’ve never particularly cared anything for sweets, so I went over and sat down with the homeless man and struck up a conversation like I’ve done countless times before. A short time later he went back out into the heat.

I told my wife we were just starting to have a good talk when he bolted on me. She said, “of course he did. You stink of cop and he could smell it on you. Normal folks don’t do what you just did, and he knows it.”

That gave me a good laugh.

If the heavy machinery job doesn't work out you should look into security for your local hospital. The people and insurance are great and your skill set is already there. Plus it's inside and I never met anyone that didn't like that work.

@scott1970 congratulations Sir, and thank you for your service, I hope that your new future is everything you want it to be.

So, only 10 days until you go back to work?
No retirement trip?

I thought surely you might go down to Florida (I would not, but you can... sorry @Roberteaux )?

It would be the perfect opportunity for you to swing by myhouse SC and bring that 68RI.....
It might pay for your gas on the trip....barely.

just sayin"

No security gigs are in my future. Nothing involving a radio or screaming idiots who lack any semblance of maturity which hospitals are full of nowadays. We were called to our hospital constantly during the last few years. Between the “mental health consumers”, the junkies and all their crazy family members there’s no way I’d sign up for that again.

I sold that guitar to a board member and paid extra to have FedEx pack it after they showed me their detailed guitar shipping policy. Plus, I specified exactly how the buyer wanted it packed which they assured me would be done.

They packed it so poorly they damaged the rare black and gold case. I was sick over it. Still am.

hey if you want to boss union guys around (translation = babysit) you could work for me a few times a year at a couple G's a pop. the closest thing to "enforcement" we have is giving Stumpy the evil side eye when he's texting his gal while he's supposed to be moving a crate.

we travel to popular destinations, meet interesting people, and spend our entire day at a loading dock or empty hotel ballroom watching drape go up and down.

once it's all done, i get the crew drunk and sleep in while they scramble to make their early flights home with insane hangovers.

it's a lot of fun, i gotta say.

The union is why I never made it past sergeant, but can’t complain. Thanks to the Union I helped get a chief fired and ran off the city manager who protected him.

Those were horribly stressful years for my wife, but I’ll be forever indebted to the International Brotherhood of Police Officers. I’m also retired from president of Local 735. This is why admin skipped my retirement party....old, bitter resentments.

all said, i love the unions we work with. they are constant source of entertainment and story telling while our days drag on.

it's hard to beat live entertainment at work that doesn't shoot at you, typically.

some are close talkers though, and spit happens.

The last one...

ax3dR0Ll.png

I just walked in from picking that fine okra and am soaking wet from humidity.

I'm game. I do well under dynamic pressure. At least, I used to back when I was a cop at 6:00 pm.

The look of a cop that does not know where the donut shop is. Enjoy your retirement. I guessbthere is a bitter sweet element to leaving something you viewed as a career. But, whose going to catch the smackrabbits now????

Well, many people really enjoy mechanical work inside. You might just be one of them.
