As most of you know, im a home health aide (i take care of the elderly in their homes)

Ive been a companion since around January, sitting with clients in the hospital, but no hands on care.

About a week or so ago I started my in home care assignment.

My boss, who is also an RN is going to be doing an assessment on my client tomorrow. Basically he wants to observe how my client does with his daily routine.

My day goes like this

Get to work, chill for about 30 minutes... Go in and wake him up, give him 5 minutes, he always asks for 5 more minutes.

Get him up, undress him and get him on the toilet, clean him up if he had an accident over the night (he wears adult diapers)

Get him in the shower, wash him, get him out of the shower... yada yada yada, shave him dress him ect ect, fix breakfast, so on and so on.

Hes total care so basically i do every thing for him, or at least assist him.

He can feed himself (he loves to eat)

So yeah, I basically am the total care giver for this guy.

Tomorrow my boss will be there watching every step I take. ... Now normally id be jumping out of my ass screaming oh my god too much anxiety! But im acutally confident. Ive gotten really good at this mans care plan and can do it with ease. Im sure ill be a little nervous but im going to just go though the motions as if no one was watching me. I think they will be happy with what they see.

Thanks guys. i really enjoy the job and it is very rewarding to know that i am helping my clients to live a better life. Not only am I his home health aide, im his friend. We spend 10 hours together every day. He has Alzheimers/dementia but he remembers me and remembers my name (most of the time)

To me it comes natural. Im also a nurses aide, as well as a radiologic technologist (i gave up xray because that is a burn out profession. especially working 3rd shift in the ER for 10 years) i wouldnt have wanted to work 1st shift xray... eeeeffff that b.s. too much drama for ya momma.

With this job its me and the client, no one else to make things complicated.

Cleaning him up from having accidents is easy peasy, you just put on gloves, roll up your sleeves and wipe him down, its really not that big of a deal. you just gotta have the right mindset for it. everyone poops, it is what it is lol...

what i like most about the job is he has a sense of security when im there, he confides in me. i am available to do that today, i am able to be a productive member of society. thats a good feeling.

Your job is much harder than mine. Much respect.

Some people do tell me that mikey, they think its hard work, but its not for me. i enjoy it and look at it as "ok what new challenges can i master today?" ... i used to not think like that.... back in the fall/winter of last year i was having panic attacks left and right and setting myself up for failure on the job before i even go broken in on the tasks. this job is probably the easiest job ive ever had.

Bling . pocket full of hard candy . everyone's a butterscotch man
a, I speak truth. "Shadow" means stress. One day I was "monitored" I got tray bounced off my head =22 stitches. I just sat there,
"Please ,don't hit me again."

They hugged the guy who hit me!

Yeah, nothing like "social work."
