camera phones always sound like sh*t.

I wonder how awful Hendrix and Jimmy Page would seem if everything they did was documented and put online like what happens nowadays? :hmm:

Given how many Zep boots there are, and given how bad Jimmy sounds on a lot of them, and given how much arguing there is over whether or not he sucked live, I would say Page didn't really escape it.

Dave recovered from some pretty ugly nerve damage in his arm. Much respect. Megadeths rhythms are pretty tough.

At least I didn't have to hear him sing.

Megadeth may have actually been decent if Mustaine's ego allowed him to let a good vocalist handle the singing duties, so he could focus on what he's good at. But I guess he needed all the attention, so the music suffered.

yeah, like that jerk Hendrix! or SRV! What egotistical jerks who couldn't sing! Where do they get off wanting to sing the songs they wrote? The nerve of those bastards.

You ever try to find a good singer? I've been looking for 25 years and still haven't found one,..it's why I started singing my songs myself.

Why did James Hetfield end up singing for Metallica? Because they couldn't find a decent singer.

And I'm sure there's many other song writers in the same boat.

If you don't like don't listen.

I sat on the sidelines for years waiting for a magic singer, writing and singing my own songs and waiting for someone to take over so I could focus on guitar.

You talk about Ego? Have you ever worked with 'Singers'? :laugh2:

I and many others chose to just sing our songs ourselves so we could share them with people, rather them let them pile up in our bedrooms waiting for the magic singer.

Some people just get tired of waiting and start doing everything themselves.

That's not Ego, it's motivation to get sh*t done when you're tired of waiting on other people.

So I stopped joining bands and became the band, just like Mustaine.

I'll never be a great singer, I'll always be a guitarist first, but that wont stop me from trying to share my music with people.

Just like Mustaine.

Even Mustaine admits he isnt a great singer, he has said it in a few interviews. The only reason he is the si ger is because when the band first started no one else wanted to sing so he did it.

I can't get past the signing or the lyrics. If Dave is a genius, it sure isn't reflected in what he writes.

In your opinion. :)

Peace Sells but who's buying, is pretty awesome. And that's just one small example.

While everyone else was writing about the devil, and wizards and dragons and stupid sh*t, he was writing about things that actually matter.

His songs are still relevant 20+ years after they were written. And everything he warned us about, like an overreaching power mad Government,..has come to pass.

So add 'Prophet' to the list of his accomplishments. :D

..He's not for everyone and is a polarizing figure. But to deny his greatness is ridiculous.

There's lots of amazing people I'm not a fan of. But not being a fan in no way detracts from their greatness or the great work they've done.

I still haven't met anyone who can play Holy Wars correctly, let alone sing it and play it at the same time. That verse riff is incredible,...it's like his hands have their own separate brain controlling them.

I'm a fan. I just tend to think a lot of people don't get him, or let his politics or mouth get in the way of the music.

Or people just don't like technical speed metal and never will.

And that's ok too.

..but it's no reason to talk sh*t about someone.

I don't mean to defend him so much, it's just I think he gets handed the sh*t end of the stick most of the time.

He's not wealthy like Metallica, he's not worth over $225 million dollars like James Hetfield (alone) is.

He's comfortable no doubt, but he's not stupid rich.

Hell,...even the transcription guitar books for Megadeth are terrible and woefully inaccurate.

..then you look at the Metallica guitar books and they're phenomenally perfect.

So once again Dave got the sh*t end of the stick, even in guitar books.

For some reason it's like people just don't take him seriously, when I think his work speaks for itself.

....I still see him as an underdog.

I'm a fan of Mustaine as well. I do believe he gets shafted and is over shadowed by Metallica. I still believe even Metallica didn't kick him out. He would of left on his own.

I don't generally jump into these types of threads-- get sick of the slagging and have never actually cared what anybody else likes or dislikes in music to begin with. But a few of your comments were interesting and worthy, and I'd like to address them.

You ever try to find a good singer? I've been looking for 25 years and still haven't found one,..it's why I started singing my songs myself.

QFT... really good ones are hard to find. My guitar instructor has been gigging for something like 38 years, and tells me that they don't exactly grow on trees.

If you don't like don't listen.

My formula, precisely.

That's not Ego, it's motivation to get sh*t done when you're tired of waiting on other people.

So I stopped joining bands and became the band, just like Mustaine.

This is what happened with my teacher. He sings, even though he hasn't got the greatest voice. His "band" is always a bunch of pickup artists, though some of them are well-known for being members of various famous groups at different times in their musical careers. Naturally, being so near to Jacksonville, most of the fellas who play at his gigs originally hailed from Southern Rock groups... of course, as professionals, they play whatever is on the set list-- and they play it all quite well.

He says that it's nice to work with guys who are pros-- who show up at the gig, play their asses off, and then get their pay and split. No headaches, no politics, no bullshit at all. They all like it best that way.

There's lots of amazing people I'm not a fan of. But not being a fan in no way detracts from their greatness or the great work they've done.

Well said.

I still haven't met anyone who can play Holy Wars correctly, let alone sing it and play it at the same time. That verse riff is incredible,...it's like his hands have their own separate brain controlling them.

Mustaine has hit me like that before-- and though I do like a couple of Megadeth songs, no, I'm not really a huge fan of the group. Meanwhile, however, I do respect Dave's abilities, which are light years beyond the best I've got. Watched Megadeth's entire Woodstock 99 performance recently, and at several moments wondered how the hell he was doing what he was doing.

Geddy Lee often impresses me in much the same way, along with every sheet music-reading keyboardist ever. How the hell does one read two clefs at once, and then sing at the same time? Amazing.

...but it's no reason to talk sh*t about someone.

True, true. Never gonna stop anybody, though.

He's comfortable no doubt, but he's not stupid rich.

Depends on who you compare him to, I guess. To me, he is stupid rich-- just not as stupid rich as, say, Hetfield.

Well, the vid in the first post is clearly fake. My old eyes and ears are to shot to tell in Mal's vids are fake or not -- but they do sound a lot better than the first vid.

And Poncho, Van Halen blows MBV away. That's not even a subjective call, it's been proven by science.

Ok kidding pal, I like MBV. Just playing. :)

Yikes, really?

One guy revolutionized sound. In fact, that album that came out in 91 sounds like it could have come out in 2024. No one can duplicate it. And they've tried. The other guy, the didlee didlee dee guy, that sounds like it came out exactly when it came out, anybody that wants to make that sound now can do it, easily, although as to why, I have no idea

I understand you dig one more than the other for personal reasons or whatever, but let's not be ridiculous

He's a pretty underrated guitarist, I think. Play your ass alongside Chris Poland and Marty Friedman and not look like a douche? You're probably a badass at one level or another.

I don't care for that style of playing, but it takes talent to do it. And he does it well.
