Besides, is that really what Gibson calls ther "Standard"?

I don't think their "standard" is that standard anymore. I personally don't get a fart when I buy something, but I think any more than 2 pieces should be a no-no, maybe 3 on less expensive models

In the past I have owned what I do believe was a one-piece Trad (2012 model). For the life of me I could not see a seam (it was a Light Burst with a Cherry back)... neither could the guy at the mom & pop guitar shop I bought it from. We were both convinced it was a one-piece. Maybe there a seam that was just so well hidden, but it sure as heck looked like a one-piecer to me. That said... my two-piece-backed 2014 Trad and my two-piece-backed 2016 Trad T both sound and feel better than that 2012 did (I sold the 2012 to buy the 2016). So go figure.

In the end, I would (and have) bought the one that sounded and felt the best... that matters way more to me than how many pieces its back has. YMMV

Just remember if own a Gibson Les Paul with more than a one piece back, it usually means you have a small pen1s and that you're not a good person. Someone had to say it.

Most Gibson USA Les Paul Mahogany bodies are multi pieced now. When did this start? Is a LP Standard or Custom from the 1990's probably multi pieced? I'm not meaning the 1970's pancake LP bodies.

Back to the original question...

The 90's specs for Standard's and Custom's were:

One piece mahogany body
Two piece maple top
One piece mahogany neck (although you might discuss the "wings" as little pieces of wood)

I own a '92 Standard and that's what it is.

I personally think that Standard' and Custom's should still be that way.
Studio's and cheaper models, I can understand multi-piece bodies.
