Completed the rewire. Pot Values are 530k in both volumes, and 510k in both tones. .022 cap in the bridge circuit and .015 cap in the neck, both Russian PIO. Wired 50s style of course. That alone cleared up a ton of mud. Lowered the neck pickup and balanced the pole pieces.

I've gotten it sounding pretty good. I know he's looking for something close to the tone I get out of my Burstbucker 2 in the neck position and it's very close. Without switching out the pickup to something more in the PAF style, i think it's as close as it's going to get.

I don't know why they put those linear 300k pots in anything! I swapped mine for 500k TVT pots and 0.22 and 0.1 caps. The taper works and the guitar sounds much better, especially the 490R.

I'd put the higher value pots in the neck circuit to retain treble. The lower values for the bridge circuit.

If the LP pickup combo is the 498/490, actually swapping the mags between pickups is a pretty good solution. For another alternative, try a short A5 for the neck, and a short a2 for the bridge.

I agree!!!

I saw a video on YouTube and the guy took a 490R and did the short A5 and then put it in the bridge position.

Sometimes, for some players, the A2's are too wishy washy and the A5's are too scooped and dare I say... HOT. They each do have their strong points however. The short A5 seems to get the best of both with less bad from either.

Maybe it can be just what the doctor ordered in the Neck Position.

Lemme find that video.........

Lowering the pup and playing with the screw pole heights is first though. The strings over the neck pup have way more travel when vibrating than near the bridge and can overload the pup for clarity when too high. Probably should be lower than the bridge pup. Good luck

Also, the other day I saw some videos of Re-Wind pups. I really liked the medium output Neck Pup (A4) but low output Bridge (A2). I'm weird. Listen to those on YT. NICE!

I hope this helps!
