Hey there,

I've started teaching myself to play guitar (on a lefty strat) since the first lockdown and made a video about it to motivate others during this time. Would be very happy if someone stops by!

Thank you!

Not bad for nine months. I've been 'learning how to play guitar' for over 50 years. :laugh2: Do you know anyone else who plays? There is no substitute for playing with others as a tool for improvement. Keep it up.

You're lucky, you have "natural" talent after 9 months I could barely tune the guitar-next up find a drummer-RULE THE WORLD!
I'll try to implement it. I already have a bunch of lyrics and the drummer will surely be found. Thank you, I feel very honored.

Keep going; you're doing great. Learn as many songs as you can. Each one will make you a better player and expand your musical vocabulary.

That was the best stage, when the light finally goes on... took me almost a year and a half.
Then it was like, "I gotta learn this one! I gotta learn that one!"
Play till it hurt so bad, had to stop.
That's OK, pick it up tomorrow!

Doing Great..
9 months in at 12 years old..back in Neolithic times..I was on Mel Bay Book 2..on a Kay with 1/2" or more "action"...

So much more available today.. Learned mostly walkin a little south from house in Chicago and watched blues players in alleys..on porches..or sneaking into "lounges"//

Thinking about it now..it was the most exciting times..

You seem to have a very natural ability to finger pick. Piano player?

Regardless, you are miles ahead of where I was by that time, keep going man! You're past the hard bit, now is when it truly gets fun.

Thanks for your compliment! Actually, I taught myself most of it by ear. Only in the beginning I watched some song tutorials, but to get ahead and know what I was playing, I derived most of it from the basic chords without any previous knowledge or courses - only watching the rockpioneers Hendrix, Gilmour, Page etc. I think many things can be deepened better this way

Damn, I’ve been playing a year and am just starting to feel confident with my F chord and am struggling with hitting only two strings in a blues shuffle.

I think the most important thing is just to never give up and be obsessed with being able to strike the chord or the two strings at the same time. One day you wake up and suddenly you can do it. it's crazy!
How do you learn to play the guitar?
