I find it funny how people inspect things with a microscope to see if there is anything they can interpret as being racist, sexist, political, ect...

however, I watched the commercial and to be honest, I do think there was supposed to be some underlying racist message/dark humor in there. the emphasis on black people being in the commercial is strange and really makes no sense for any other reason.

on the other hand, if there were no black people in the commercial, just white we would hear complaining about that so who cares.

I cannot possibly fathom how you could even remotely think that there was "some underlying racist message/dark humor" in that commercial. In today's society, advertisers are going WAAAAAAY out of their way to be perceived as tolerant, inclusive and monikers of political correctness.... their very lifeblood ($$$) depends on it.

Have you looked closely at TV commercials lately... it's a cornucopia of inclusion in every single one of them. Target is among the best - they have the entire United Nations in their commercials, including fatties & uglies - previously the lepers of choice for EXCLUSION in commercial advertising. Followed closely by Apple, the diversification king of advertising.

FWIW.. I don't give a rat's ass. I have no racial overtones. I hate everyone equally. But, it bears mention.

This type of butt hurt is getting out of hand in epic proportion.

Exactly what I was thinking. Nothing racist about it in my opinion, but it's strange, because it's obvious that they're using race for their punchline. And one that doesn't really make sense.

Right? It's true and that makes it hilarious. Back "in the day", you NEVER saw overweight people in commercials - especially overweight females. That was off limits. No one wanted to see that shit. Give us the 20-something, 90lb blonde, with blue eyes and perfect tits!

And, ugly people? NFW. In scenes with dozens of people, there was not anyone there who was less than mildly beautiful - man or woman!

Now, we have the elephant man/woman and legions of obese women in moo-moo's in Gap commercials. Bonus points if they are black or Asian, too!

I got dragged to a Toys R Us the other day and fell over laughing at the sight of a wall full of Fat Barbies. Fat, tubby, heifer Barbies! It's hilarious.

Axios’ Mike Allen asked, “Specifically what happened at Parkland, what’s the biggest mistake the media made in covering your situation?”

“Not giving black students a voice, honestly,” Hogg said. “My school’s about 25 percent black, from what I can recall, and about I believe 50 percent white.”

I think at this point young Mister Hogg could do that himself rather than blame the media. But that would mean he couldn't be disgusted about something.

as @lucidspoon said, is comes off as though they use the black actors it to emphasize their punchline. it may not be racist in the sense of discrimination or hatred but imo the chances of those actors being strategically placed because they were black is probable.

the commercial plays on sterotypes, the hipster bartender with a manbun, the old black guitar player.... imagine if their slogan was "darker is better" and the actors rolls were reversed.

I wasn't laughing on my last vacation with all the fatties thumping and shuffling around in Brazilian and thong bikinis. It's gone from self acceptance to a bizarre self indulgence to put on display what the average female doesn't.

I kind of like thick Asian women but only because you so rarely ever see that.

not obese mind you, but thick? Not a deal breaker.

...only with asians though. I see tons of fat white women,..not very unique, that. :laugh2:

That wasn't really stereotypes, as people of color are usually darker. Anyway how can you have a color blind society when people are constantly calling something out over color?

having a "colorblind" society is not what people want. we shouldn't feel like we have to pretend to not notice something. there is a certain patronizing undertone that comes with people pretending to be colorblind.

as I said in my first post, I dont really care, im am just offering a different perspective.

Imagine if you were looking at it through the eyes of someone who was not brainwashed by PC social madness.

It was staged to be inclusive, as that is the new standard. Someone was triggered, it "went viral" and the bandwagon was full.

Company falls on its sword and pulls the ad. Why?

And, ironically, the 6:00 news was where your appearance made virtually no dif because it was serious biz whereas now if you aren't pretty much ken or barbie beautiful you get no air time. Watch the ABC evening news some time if you want to see unintentional self parody.
