I used to play a lot, but a 4 year bout fighting Lyme disease and it's effects has left me with only 1/4 of my previous skills and makes playing frustrating at times. But, I still hoard guitars and spend time here getting GAS and praying and hoping for the day that my motor skills return and my playing can take priority again.

When I was young and poor, I was all about tweaking the few guitars I had (routing / painting, bondo) and same with the amps building tube amps.

Now, I'm lazy and just want to plug in an play. I have more guitars than most shops and love the tone of my amp.

I have a few project guitars that need to get done (20+ years), and enough parts in the basement to build an army of amps. But now I'm lazy and just like to plug in and play when I get free time.

I'd probably be a better player if I played more and tweaked less when I was younger.

yup. this is how I feel. I am not a musical person. I have a very bad ear for tone and have always been bad at keeping rhythm. I'm also not a creative person so improvising does not come to me naturally. this does not mean I don't enjoy it. I very much do.

there are few things that will hold my attention for long periods. guitar is one of them. I can literally sit down for hours on end and just play nothing. even if its simple chord progressions or various riffs over and over. the sounds I hear make me happy.

I love guitars. All kinds of guitars. I am always looking for my next one. I spend more time looking at guitars than I do playing my guitars, but it is easy to look and it doesn't matter what's going on in the back ground. I get in moods to really try and learn something new, and do, but sometimes I spend weeks just playing the same stuff I know over and over. I will get better with time, but I don't care how good I get, as long as it's fun. And it is. Besides guns, nothing has held my attention as long as or a fully as guitars. I'm 42, if I'm a better player when I'm 52, great. If not, that's cool too. Don't be looking for me on tour anytime soon. :D

I love to play but lately I barely have time. However I can easily understand how you can stare at a Les Paul (or any great guitar for that matter). These guitars are works of art as well as an instrument as far as I'm concerned.

I'm not sure better players can enjoy it more than I do - I can sit and play the mr big (free) riff over and over even though it's so simple and be completely comfortable and relaxed. Better players sound better - they don't have more fun. Occasionally I dwell on not being better but not very often.

I've just recently started playing out (six times in five weeks now), and my theory that having fun is more important than playing well, in terms of audience acceptance and reaction, has proven true. Thank goodness, because most of the guitarists I play before, after, or with are much more technically proficient than I.

My level of skill has pretty much plateued out and I need to summon up the drive to take it to the next level.

Also for those who play 4-5 hours a day where do you find the time!? Do you not sleep?

I've been blessed with a metabolism that likes five or so hours of sleep per night.

I don't play four hours a day like I used to, though.

It's not a party unless the band is having a good time!:dude:

I'm most obsessed with eliminating slop in my technique. I practice with a clean tone through headphones to pick up where I may not be muting unwanted strings. I like to think that my Custom, EMGs, effects, and Marshall make me sound much better than I am, so I strive to catch up to my gear.

I like to look at a nice guitar . . . and I have the three to satisfy that liking . . .

easyace-albums-les-paul-1956-reissue-picture45059-my-three-lesters-2009-r9-bloomfield-vos-2007-classic-antique-gotw-19-2007-r6.jpg

But since I get to look at them any time I want, I'd much rather spend time playing them. Which I do, every day! (I practise a little on each guitar every day, regardless of which one I'm going to take to play out on any night . . .)

I play more than I drool over guitars. I've got a nice little stable at this point. Any time I think I want/need another I remind myself of a couple things. First, the wife ain't gonna like that idea one bit. Second, I'd be better off learning how to play the guitars I do have much better than I currently am. Those two points keep my GAS in check.

yeah, inorite???

i have a hard time finding hours to play in any given evening.

9-10 hours of my day is devoted to work and 8 to sleep and most days 2 hours for exercise. with the 4 hours I have remaining, I need to find time to shop, cook, eat, clean, take care of my dog, laundry/etc

some days I don't even eat supper because I just want to play guitar.

Lucky man! I would love to play guitar for a living, although I imagine people would get bored with my playing since I'm usually only concerned with things I like to play. :laugh2:

I'm young and poor so all I have right now is a beat up Squier that sounds like shit. This is the reason why I don't play that much and spend time on here. If I had an LP I would never see daylight. But it will happen someday :fingersx: Also have an Ibanez acoustic but its just not as fun compared to electric especially when you consider the fact that I like to play Metal.

I started with a Squier Bullet many moons ago. Set it up nice as you can and play the hell out of it. Your dream guitar is waiting for you somewhere down the road.
