Surely by now we should have some kind of nuke or laser beam that can be deployed to take out stray asteroids.

I just got some new eye pieces for my scope, and tested them. Looking at M31 (Andromeda), Jupiter and it's moons, M42 (Orion Nebula), and M1 (Crab Nebula), I feel insignificant as it is. It's a beautiful but cold and violent universe out there.
