I think that is my favorite mobster movie as well.

Millers Crossing is high up there too.

I don't know about it ruining the series. I think there's pretty much universal agreement that it's not as good as the first two (Pacino played the character of Michael VERY differently from the first two films) and, overall, it's not nearly as strong of a film when compared to the rest but it's still worth watching, IMO. Andy Garcia is very good in it.
