Generally those kind of virus'/malware get into the registry, all the anti-virus programs will do a registry scan and nuke them.
The only problem is with some of the new ones, they are very good at going undetected by things like Malwarebytes as they look like a running, legitimate process to the computer. There are a few little DOS programs (search rkill.exe) that are designed to stop the active processes before a scan, then the anti-virus program can pick it up and get rid of it.
I had to deal with one the other week that got past my AV and manged to stop me getting on the internet at all to even search for a way to remove it. Had to use safe mode to find a solution and download the programs.
Hope you get it sorted out Dice.
