There is a pretty warm cast on the top from the incandescent lighting, so you are thinking lemon drop, more or less?

Mebbe kinda like this:

Which is not to say I wouldn't be happy with the colors on the one on the Announcement page...............

Who ever wins this is going to think that they have died and gone to heaven.. If they turn around and sell it, they are going straight to hell, not passing go, and not collecting $200..

OK, that's kinda pretty
How about the edge of the lower bouts for the center color, and the edge of the upper bass bout for the edges?

Okay, so I have a quick update here for you guys.
After I rough out the body blanks, I need to dress them down. I start with the jointer. Again, this is 20" wide, so it gives me plenty of room to do a skew cut, or shear cut which reduces tear out pretty dramatically.

I just go ahead an joint one face.

this leaves one side nice and flat, but not parallel to anything.

The next step is to thickness plane the other side. This will make the two faces perfectly parallel and true to one another.

It will need a few passes to bring it down to thickness.

Here is the finished blank, thacknessed and flattened.

The next thing to do is to attach a template. The screw hols line up where the control cavities will eventually be routedm so there is no worry of leaving marks.

I head to the pin router, and place a 1/2" diameter bit in the chuck. I also use a matching pin in the table. the template will ride along this pin, allowing the router bit to do the cutting from above and never coming into contact with the template.

Ready to go!

IMG_0398_zps2cea3b35.jpg

I cut it in steps, dropping the bit lower each pass.

I continue on until the cut is complete the whole way through the blank. This leaves a nice smooth edge that needs little further attention.

Now I switch to another template that has the wire channel that allows me to rout the 1/2" slot. This completes the mahogany section of the body, until after glue up.

Once again, amazing photos and build. I was thinking to myself a few minutes ago (sometimes scary stuff happens when I do that). You are basically building this by feel; as in finding the tap tones of the body and top for the right sound, shaping the neck for the right feel, etc. I think you should let the guitar tell you what finish it wants. Really. I think you and the Retrospec-in-progress have a sort of bond that only a creator could know. It's got to have enough soul by now to be leading you in one direction or another.

Just for the record, I'd be tickled beyond comprehension to win it, no matter what finish it gets!
