Well my purge has begun, I have a total of (4) 4 x 12 Jeff Swanson `68 Marshall Cabinets. One is an open back loaded with 15 watt Celestion/Scumnico combination. B cab is loaded with (4) Celestion Gold 50 watt speakers

The other A cab is loaded with 4 original Blackback 25 watt Celestions, and B Cab has 4 Scumback 30 Pre-Rola type Speakers.

I'm selling two cabinets for sure. But was wondering what some of you guys think about the benefits and detriments to doing this?

I'm thinking of pairing (2) 15 Watt Celestion Blues w/ (2) 25 Watt Celestion Blackbacks in an A Cab

While doing the same with Scumbacks and Celestion Golds in a B Cab?

What do you guys think?

thanks,

Peach

I'd put them in an X pattern, can sound really good. Just want to make sure the speakers don't differ too much in wattage (which for your example you'll be fine), otherwise you'll be hearing mostly the more efficient speaker (and defeat the purpose of mixing speakers).

"I'm thinking of pairing (2) 15 Watt Celestion Blues w/ (2) 25 Watt Celestion Blackbacks in an A Cab"

Assuming they're all of the same impedance, the cab will end up rated at 60W because of the different power ratings. Any more than that will endanger the Celestion Blues

No one can really know how it will sound. Different cabs sound different and speakers sound different. Just try it out.. See what you think. I have 4 different speakers in my 4 12... i can't even say if it sounds better or worse. It just sounds good.

Friedman ships his 4x12 with V30's and Greenbacks... I'd guess mix and match could transmit some pretty cool tones. :D

I've always had mixed speakers in my cabs.

I currently run a mix of G12H-30s and Greenbacks and it kicks major ass :thumb:
