So I've got chance of this almost mint 1991 MIM Strat fairly locally.. I'm a bit limited for travelling due to Covid, so the guy could deliver it to me for £500, or a half way meet up for £460... I'm just looking for comments, opinions on this model.. I think the colour is great and the pickups are the staggered magnet type, anyway, comments very welcome guys.. Cheers

Paying $600 seems REALLY high for a MIM Strat, but I guess it's not in the US, so that may be a factor.

Those early Mexican Strats are actually US bodies and necks that were finished and assembled in Mexico. That is the good news.

The bad news though is that the fit and finish was very poor, the hardware was cheap and the pickups were crap.

If you are looking for a bargain Strat from that era, go for the Japanese Strats. They rivaled US Strats and in many ways surpassed them.

An article about the first MIM's:

That one is pretty, in great condition, and appears to have a decently tight neck joint. So if "early production/historical significance" matters to you, maybe go for it.

But as just a "used Strat", a post 2000 MIM is a better guitar.

Thanks for the info guys.. Another possible deal that's come up is this USA HSS body and hardware with a 2001 MIM neck which will stand me at £400 once a trade is made.
Can you verify that this looks to be a USA body. Any comments, opinions welcome guys.

The burst near the forearm contour looks a little odd -- not sure if it's just the pic.

No other red flags from those pics, but would need pics of the neck pocket and pickup/control cavities to be sure if it's a actual Fender USA body.

The MN1 neck has a similar finish to my MN4, which was finish-shaped by Hector Montes ( has his stamp on the heel). Yours may be also. Hector Who? He did many Clapton and SRV necks for the Custom Shop.
