Their set has just finished, reaching the noise cut off point of 23:45 and it's safe to say they absolutely nailed it. There was controversy with many of the more hippy crowds saying they wished they could sell their tickets once they found out who the main headliner was. While that may have been the case they certainly had a massive turnout and it appears a great time was had by all. I'm fairly certain they have changed many opinions tonight

Setlist wise it was same old with no really unusual twists but they preformed so well regardless of standard setlist it will still be memorable. Lars' drumming has greatly increased and double bass all round seemed to be the message of tonight.

Watching this show I would truly challenge anyone to say they were past it :dude:

Judging by what I've watched, Bryan Ferry's band could kick their arses to China and back.

I misread. I thought it was Metallica At Gettysburg. THAT would have been great. North against the South and North and South against Metallica. So there's Metallica trying to hold Bald Knob (hold Bald Knob, lol) and both armies are trying to take it from them.

North and South using black powder guns and cannon and Metallica trying to hold the hill swinging their guitars like battles axes. Damn. I wanna see that video.

Ferry wasn't brilliant but his band was killer.

I really wanted to like Metallica's set, they were my absolute favourite band as a teenager, I remember the day after Cliff died, my friends and I went into school wearing black armbands. I just thought it was a confusing mess and Kirk Hammett sounded like he was playing through a practice amp.

Probably doesn't help that they changed their rig setup here lately. Their old Mesa Boogie live tone was always the best. Kind of went downhill since they started experimenting with a lot of other gear.

Found a video of a part of the concert, but compared to the previous concerts this year, the live mixing here is kinda shotty, drums are abit louder than they should be.

Otherwise... it's always a good sign when the crowd is singing along nice and strong. They don't give any shits, never did. Still thrashing all around, never stopped, never quit, they are Metallica. And robert's shirt just reminded me that damn, 30 years of Ride The Lightning.

EDIT: Also, this apparently was a thing, "we interrupt this "Ecstasy of Gold" intro with..."

I see Rob is looking ridiculous as usual in his trademark shorts and basketball jersey.

I really enjoyed it. I was sitting in my hotel room at LHR enjoying the festival. My favorite set was Robert Plant.

I watched it live, I think they did a pretty good job.

My favourite Glasto 2014 act however was Jack White. Looking forward to seeing him next week in Amsterdam.
