It's gets confusing, I'm all about the
valve tone man

I just sold an 18watt plexi I made to a friend who was using a small black star, he said I've finally understood the whole valve tone thing, I did put a vvr in otherwise it's to loud for the house.
You can just use all the guitar controls instead of pedals, I don't own any btw.

im after a valve/tube amp but at the moment i dont have the funds

valve amps i have seen around here are pretty damn expensive, i was thinking an ac 15 would be great but i seen the price

i dont gig, i rarely play plugged in and even if i do plug in i cant have it loud enough to push the tubes

so maybe solid state or digital is the way to go,already have a Vox Da5 and i have more than enough effects so im thinking solid state, something with 2 channels like the orange crush 20 watter with the two channels

I got a Bugera V5 for a reasonable price while on sale. Nice little amp with .1-5w switch in the back and headphone out. There's ample opportunity to upgrade components for modders out there, but it suites me just fine as is. It also takes pedals really well.

My favorite amp is my Spider Jam for its backing tracks and recording capabilities.

silly question but with the little amps can you just rebuild the cabinet part and put in a bigger speaker?

i love music, love guitars but never really had a decent amp, ive seen mixed reviews about the orange crush's but what i have heard from video's i like it enough to want to go that route, plus 20 watts would be more than enough headroom, heck even my 5 watt vox is more than enough.

after i finish a few more guitars i want to concentrate on my health, and then get back into playing them rather than building them

Sure there are build threads that I have seen. I got a longer speaker cable for mine and I connect to it to the 12" speaker of my not so reliable hybrid amp. I've also seen them connected to a 4x12 cab.

I've got a Bugera V5 as well, what a great little amp! I'm going to build a Marshall 18W clone within the next year or so, I've always wanted to give that a go.

I have two Peavey Vypyrs & they work great for what we do..
The tube 60w sounds better than the 15w but the 15w has it's uses in the bedroom where the other is up in the studio..

I've had solid state amps forever, basically because I suck as a guitarist and thought why spend the money but when a friend passed away, I was tasked with selling some of his equipment. I had it at my place and tested it all to make sure it was working properly. He had a MESA Express 5:25. It sounded amazing. I still sucked but it sounded much better! ;-) I sold all his equipment as he was a gigging musician and it was all pretty high end but kept my eye out on KIJIJI. I picked up a tiny VOX AC4 TV really cheaply. I love the sound of this little tube amp. I think the next amp I will get is something a bit bigger obviously all tube and probably a kit.

The worst thing about the solid state amps IMO, is not the sound, it's that something goes wrong, it could be one little solder joint, and it's dead. I've given three of these cheap little things to a friend's dad who fixes them and gives them to kids who can't afford amps.

This is my limited experience. If I bought a decent SS version it would probably be more than adequate for my needs.

Cheers Peter.

These are excellent. I built their version of a Matchless Lightning (with a couple of mods) before they introduced the TC15 which is a 15 watt version of the DC30. I own the real deal and they sound identical. It helps that I was able to source the same transformers used in the Matchless.

I once played a gig with one of these plugged into a Marshall 4x12. Worked like a charm. In my opinion little amps, especially little tube amps, work great plugged into larger speakers.

That's why I started making heads, 1x12 wasn't loud enough at gig level
I made a 36watt plexi from scratch with a vvr sounds great.
I put a hall amplification vvr in it.

One twelve inch speaker is plenty unless you have a really large stage. It's the power of the amp that matters in this case.

I rarely play anything bigger than 15 watts these days. My Lightning keeps up with a drummer (barely) and sounds great. Also in-ear monitors help.

You must have a drummer who actually plays with touch! It's nice to have that...our drummer plays with touch too.
