Let me begin by saying that I hope everyone has a Merry Christmas, happy holidays, and a happy New year.

Unfortunately for my family and I, my wife is in the hospital in Boston and probably won't be home for the holidays. My daughter and her were out Christmas shopping last Saturday and suddenly she couldn't walk. She had already had a lot of pain in one of her hands. She was quickly sent via ambulance to Boston where they eventually found that she had multiple blood clots in her hand, which was affecting her whole body. They did surgery and removed the clots (most of them anyway) and she's now in incredible pain. It's bad that all this had to happen before and during Christmas, but we are very lucky that she's alive and that none of the clots made it to her heart, lungs, or brain.

This has been an ongoing affair with us this year, as she had shattered her shoulder in work back in June. Some may remember that I had a burst gallbladder during the surgery to remove it and spent one night at home in incredible pain before being sent via ambulance to Beth Israel Hospital in Boston where I had two more procedures.

Needless to say, I will be watching 2015 go out, and will not look back in the rear-view mirror at it. Quite a stressful year.

Anyway, like I had said, we are at least lucky that she is alive. Happy holidays to all, and count your blessings.

Thanks all. Unfortunately, she never did come home. But she's recovering well in the hospital, thanks to the 4 nurses in my family especially, who work for different Boston hospitals. They're keeping the nurses at the Brigham & Women's Hospital on their toes. As it turned out, they needed it. You'd think everything would be perfect, or even up to par, at one of the best hospitals in America. But apparently, it is not. As it turned out, my wife was not getting care that was all that good from the nurses there. But as they say, squeaky wheels get all the grease.

I am happy to hear that she is on the mend. When it comes to the health of loved ones, it is imperative to be an informed patient or to have someone looking out for you. This goes for any level of quality facility. B&W is a great hospital, but individual healthcare providers are human and have lots of pressures and constraints on their resources (time & attention). One has to keep in mind that they aren't in the hospital to make friends, they are there to get well. Of course, being polite and treating people with respect is my prefered method of getting people to do what I want. However, with critical health issues, you don't want to be polite to the point of being passive.

I will keep her in my prayers.

Thanks, Tone. The nurses aren't too bad, from what I've seen. My sister in law, my wife's oldest sister, is a nurse as well. She's pushing for perfection with them at handling her little sister. That was basically it.
