If anybody knows anything about these, please let me know. Sticker on the back of headstock says 06675.

Craigs list again. Ad says mephis guitar $40. I contact the guy (kid) and he can't even describe what he has. So he calls me back 5 minutes before I am about to leave the office and I agree to meet him since it is on my way home.

This is what it looked like at first:

Filthy and grimey.

And a nice little crack.

But, I like a challenge and for $30, WTF?

Spread the crack and add some glue. And a little pressure.

While it dries, let's clean the entire body, polish the tarnished chrome, scrape the fingerboard, polish the frets and oil the neck

I'll also clean all the plastic and replace nearly all of the screws

Repair seems to be just fine

Lets throw some Grover tuners on and string it up.

Looking good, but still needs a good set of knobs

It could use a new nut and a new ABR (the original is collapsing a bit in the center). But I don't have anything in the parts bin.

It has a VERY beefy neck. Pickups work fine. Pots are not scratchy and it sounds prett decent.

The neck feels like a much more expensive guitar. No high frets, no buzzes. Truss rod works fine.

Anybody have an idea of its value?

I saw a Memphis sunburst setneck with orig HC go for something like $500 on ebay about a year ago. I thought that was WAY too much. But you know how ebay auctions take off sometimes!

well, I have a memphis LP custom lite,
bought it for about 20 euros,
once set up, cleaned, restrung,...plays better than my standard goldtop!
way better I would say,
but I guess you should be lucky with a brand like memphis, some real shitty ones, and some real good ones...

I was amazed by it,
it is my number 2 guitar, right behind my number1 : the 92 LP classic,
I'll try to post some pics later on

$100-$200? The problem with upgrading these cheapos, is that you probably will never get back the money you put into it. If you plan on keeping it forever, then I would bring it up to snuff!:slash: You could save it for your big TV appearance and then smash it like Pete Townsend!:dude:

Cleaning out my parents’ home, came across my first guitar.

Mid-70s Memphis LP clone with set neck.

Plan on some mods due to sentimental value.

Haven’t seen this type of ornate fretboard and headstock inlays on other samples from this period.

Thinking of stripping down to bare wood with very thin PU finish. Upgrade to locking Klusons, maybe some GristleTone P90s, bridge/saddles.

Will update with progress. Any thoughts, feel free to reply.

Cheers!

My "Memphis " rescue. Was set up left handed, with a strap peg on the lower bout. All jacked up gold hardware.

Added some low cost accessories, Roller bridge, Trem arm, and some Epiphone pickups.

Actually a very nice player, good weight.

nice bridge/trem addition! Aside from the pick guard, that is my model.

I wouldn’t strip it at all, it looks like it had that violin finish to it.

Yeah, it’s held up pretty well, considering I got it at 14 (not necessarily careful or conscientious). Color combo is not my thing. Have always liked the look of natural, electric solid-bodies.

Memphis Black Beauty was my first electric guitar . . . I would love to get another one for the sake of old memories, but the prices these days are crazy!
