Hey!
If you could help me, I would be grateful.
I was offered with this:

w06frn.jpg

Description:
A pair of Maxon pickups, ser. no. 13914, taken outta Ibanez SG.
Price: $70 (50e).
If anyone could give me more information, like specs (resistance...) and is it worth that cash.
Thanks

Thanx. I was too tired last night to search for.
I'll read it carefully.

Those pups are from 1973, doubt if there's anyone that can provide you with the resisitence values but who knows..

Then it's on me to set pics and specs when they come.
Only thing is I don't wanna open anything further than covers. So alnico/ceramic doubt would be a guess for me.
I ordered them yesterday so the next post would be in a few days.

Those are like the Gaban 335 pups I had.
Near the same year with flat leveled screw poles.
Around the mid 7's for values...creamy sounding.

the same pups were used on early to mid 70's Aria LP copies.

as much as I like MAXON & Greco/Maxon pickups, they will never compare to non potted pickups IMO

I really like my Greco/MAXON PU-2s in my Combat but a good set of none potted pups (I'm sure) would sound even better ..........

you just cannot achieve the sound of a none potted pickup, like a real PAF, or a good ole T top, wit a potted pup

SD Seth Lovers are great IMO & are miles ahead AFA true PAF type tone, compared to the potted MAXON/Greco fare ............

Yeah I too have and have had un-potted Maxon's.
The ones in the Gaban and in my Maya, which I love big time, are un-potted

Worth a gamble go for it.
You could have the seller test them and tell you.

They came two days ago. Specs:
Maxon humbucker (Ibanez "Super 70"?)
No. 13914
Type: Alnico 8
Res: 8.2k (bridge), 7.9k (neck)
Weight: 136 gr each
330 mV measured on neck pu, 290mV on bridge.
Pole spacing: 50 mm each
Two wires; braided and regular inside

I put them in Gibson Les Paul Classic Premium Plus ltd. itc. They sounded perfectly balanced. Get along more than 498T and 490R. Both are warm, creamy and rounded. Perfect for clean and more drive. They get lost on mid drive though. Neck sings nicely and bluesy. Bridge bites with no harsh. Less attack and weak punch.
No my cup of tea. I used to play mine Gibson set which is more sterile and stubborn. More modern and harsh. But also penetrates through all frequencies specially at the gigs. Powerful E chords with every single string to be heard. Maxons make the strings sound not so bright when played all together, a bit sticky (if I may say "muddy"). Seems like Maxons are more for light guitars. Or for vintage lovers. I expect guitar to roars straight through the amp. Since I play JCM800 and hand wired Plexi and Bassman it should do the job. Yes, Maxons make LP sounds fatter. But with less peak and somehow limited. Tighten up a bit.
So I would get rid of them. That would be my report.

I don't have a clue about magnet identification, how do you know they are alnico 8?

I believe these are pre-super 70 Maxon pickups. The super 70's had "super 70" engraved on the base plate. The only ones I know about that were not engraved were from the early 80's and yours look to be from 1973. The ones you have were called "Super Power Humbucking pickups". I doubt that they are ceramic being early pups, but you'll just have to check.

Thank you guys for inspiring me.
Well, I did a search and found out these are similar to Ibanez "Super 70", and they were Alnico 8. And I had one "Super 70" hum and it sounded almost exactly.

The difference is obvious, even the sound should be different since yours are Type 2 as serial shows.
Anyway, both are brothers in arms!
I am getting rid of mine, sorry didn't sound as expected. Already have a buyer for $150.
But the finish on that Tele Deluxe above your posts is :naughty:

I have had the early models such as yours; they were standard issue in very early 70's Ibanez, Aria, and other MIJ guitars. the ones marked "super 70's", "U1000" are much different. I suspect the ones you have are not AlNiCo 8. From what I've read, the 2 is not the type, but just the production line number. $150 is an outstanding price for the ones you have.
