Boss must be an FSU fan.

Or a Gator fan and everyone else is rooting for the Vols!

No illegal discrimination in this case.

The law firm is still run by assholes, however. Wonder what their clients think about it...?

I hope their clients "fire" them. All their clients.

Just a few things I found when I searched "significance of wearing orange for solidarity"

The Orange Revolution Begins July 23 | Democrats.com

Gainesville High School students wear orange to show racial solidarity after racist videos posted on YouTube | Gainesville.com

Wear ORANGE on Saint Patrick's Day!

I found 3 different references for wearing orange in protest and to show solidarity in the Gainesville area alone--

I am not sure what these folks were protesting---but they were protesting something---

I thought most democrats where anti-gun. Why dress like hunters?

They surely were a security risk for the firm and anyone else. People are acting crazy these days... Wearing matching t-shirts... Oh the humanity!

Sometimes I can't understand why it's called the land of the free.

I'd bet that there's more going on in that workplace than is indicated within the story, and very much doubt that the firing of 14 employees was just some capricious act on the part of management. It's hard to find good help these days.

Betcha they were warned about this in the past, and maybe figured that they had strength in numbers, and then:

Poof! You're Fvcked!

In the old days, off duty cops would remove their uniform shirts so as to go boozin'... and it didn't make the department look good. So the department came up with trousers that had black stripes up the side of the legs, and now you'd be out of uniform if you went into a bar like that. I'm betting that this orange shirt taboo has a similar line of logic behind it somehow.

The big question is this: I wonder why they didn't just change into their orange shirts after they got off duty? But even then: I can see management getting their panties in a wad even if the employees did that.

I worked at a bar where our official shirt had the words I WORK HERE on its chest. But don't you know that if you were off duty and wore that shirt while drinking, the owner would fire you? I know how weird this sounds, but a lot of orgs don't want it to see like they've got a lot of boozers in their ranks... not even some crap hole of a bar!

I currently work for a county in Florida, and the deal with us is the same: we do NOT wear stuff with the county logo on it into a bar... or they'll be real mad at ya and write ya up. Of course, because we're a public agency they'd have to write you up three times to fire you about it... but hey: a strike is a strike. You can also be burned for pay or work hours if they write you up... it's like getting an Article 15 in the Army.

In the private sector, I doubt there's much protection in a case like this, as the article seems to indicate.

UMERICAAAAAAAAAH!
Greatest country in the world...

Also highest density of strategically placed stupidity (as in, the world isn't filled with stupid, stupid is just placed in very strategic places).

Same level of intelluence/smartidity:

Teacher on adminstrative leave for reading "Ender's Game" in class.
Parents complained the book is pornographic (no pr0n to be found b.t.w., in either of the books ("Speaker for the dead" is "part 2").

Not a single word about "kid soldiers", genocide etc.

I didn't realise that Irish gay groups are forbidden by the organisers from marching in the St Patrick's Day parade in NYC. That's not very fair.

I am sure a Gay person can march in any parade. It is just that the cannot organize as Gays or have a gay theme. St Patrick's Day parades have an IRISH theme, not a Nazi theme, not a Chinese New Year theme, not a Carnival theme, not a Democrat theme, not a Republican there, not a football theme and so on.

Hell, now that it has become "fashionable" to wear orange on St. Patricks Day, (something I have done since 1966) I am not going to do it anymore.

By reading these articles, it seems they do not know anything about the history of "the orange".

It's South Carolina... What do you expect? They boo'd a person preaching for peace, and voted for a person advocating war. This doesn't surprise me at all.

BTW, good book. Haven't read it in a while.
