Saw this thread on another forum and thought this was really cool. Since this forum seems to have a lot more traffic I thought we should have one here. I'll start.

Here's my R9 and B.O.T.B. # 9 0593 (different pics but same guitar)

Lets see yours!
I purchased this 1984 in 1985 from a music store in Austin TX. The salesman was the Gibson rep for the big store in Dallas and they got the first one off the line they could and it was 9 0016. It didn't sell and they transferred it to Austin Lightining Music and Sounds storel. I was the original owner and I paid $799 in June 1985. FYI in my career (ROCKABILLY HALL OF FAME #200) I was the second owner of Les Paul 1960 #1485. Bought in 1961, and practically gave to my lead player, traded for a little accoustic Epiphone. He sold for $200k 7 or 8 years ago. CAN ANYONE TELL ME ABOUT THESE GUITARS, Made in Nashville? Value etc Mine is not played hardly., like new, What's the story on them? I was with Les Paul on his 75th birthday and he signed my pick guard as you see in the pic. If I find I will send a pic of Paul and I in his booth and he holding his cake and acting like he was going to shove it in my face! TELL ME ABOUT THIS GUITAR AND THE GOOD AND THE BAD AND THE UGLY!

Nice guitar....but it would be much easier and more accurate if you took a picture that resembles the books pictures.

Where is a good place to buy Beauty of the Burst? It’s out of stock everywhere right now, and used they’re $200 and up.

reminds me of an acquaintance who owns a somewhat rare (1 of 17 config)
Pontiac GTO Judge

the history of the car taints the value (rear quarter welded in)
but he was into it for about $30k + some sweat equity and ownership fees

was offered $750k for it, this was in the very late '80's or early 90's
when muscle cars were really overvalued

he didn't sell, his rationale.......'what am I going to do ? buy something that
needs $700 oil changes ?'

well its in demand...

I have an astronomy book called "Anton Rykuls Atlas of the Moon" it was out of print for many years, high quality print paper of hand drawn plates of the entire moons surface. Its used price jumped past $300 a few years after it went out of print, because it was so good....

A few years ago it went back into print...and those used book prices disappeared...

Another book is "my logbook" by Gunther Rall (second highest scoring fighter ace ever) a signed copy hit $1700 right after he died.....I bought a signed copy just months before he passed away....it was $95.00 then....

So books can be valuable ....

The Beauty of the Burst is an excellent reference.....one word of caution

The photographer didn't quite get how Les Paul's photograph. (lots of red) ....and it was shot using regular Film so nearly all of them have an orange red hue. Which isn't correct ...I wonder if they bothered to go back and color corrected them?

Also those were shot 20 years ago or so....not many of those Lesters have the same fade anymore....

But get the book anyway.

Yep, it seems to be pretty popular these days. Are there any other good Les Paul books I should check out?
