As I mentioned in a different thread I discovered this gem the other day. I got back to plug a 59' Epi. into it today. It's a blue/purple 5 watt with volume, treble, mid, bass, on/off. Simple and pretty loud at $399. It's a pretty big store but was still afraid to crank it up past 3 on the neck volume. I had the amp pegged on volume and treble. It sound as good as my DSL 401 at this level. There was a long line of every MG model on the shelf with the little 5 watt on the end. There were several guys checking out the MG's and I'm thinking "what a bunch of idiots, the party is over here". I wish they had this when I started playing. I think it's the best bang for the buck for someone starting out. I kept trying to come up with a reason to buy it but in the long run my 40 watt would be the best for me.

Glad you got your hands on one! :D

That thing's gotta sound good, two 12Ax7s in the preamp section, that's some pretty decent overdrive you get there.

I guess people are afraid of spending 400 on a 5 watt amp, but if it's 400 worth of tone, that's better than 400 or 500 worth of sheer volume and bandsaw-like distortion IMHO.

When did they sneak this one in? I knew about the Haze amps released earlier this year but never knew about a 5 watt. Wish I had a need for it. I have 4 amps already and only use two of them.

There you go, hot from Marshall:
Marshall Amps :: Class5

For what I can tell, this little guy is geared towards players who love overdrive, and they deliver.

They need to release a head version as well! :D

So sell the two you don't use and buy and the Class 5. :D Then, wait some time after for the Class 5 to replace one of your amps and then sell the one that became the new coffee table and there you go! :laugh2:

Played it. Didn't like it. Of course, the only leftie they had at the store was a leftie Ibanez, so I didn't get to play it with my Les Pauls, but I tested it against the Blackstar HT-5 and the Orange Tiny Terror and it was outmatched by both of them. The cleans aren't dynamic enough, and the overdrive really doesn't sound good until you really crank it up full. At which point it's too loud for bedroom volumes, but not loud enough for anything else. No OD knob, only volume and EQ.

The Tiny Terror was just as limited in features, but it sounded the best of the three. Blackstar HT5 has tons of features, a better build and sounds better than the Class 5 too. pretty obvious.

A few days ago, I got some time on one at my local Sam Ash and liked it allot and looks well made.

So, although back ordered, I got one on the way from SamAsh.com this morning, with a coupon code and a little help from the rep delivered for $339.
