So i just got a new guitar (epiphone les paul) and this is what the finish of the binding looks like and i’m wondering if it’s finished properly. It looks like it’s filed and a bit rough(marks around fret). How could this be and is it typical? What should i do?

You can scrape it with a razor if you if it really bothers you. But leaving it as it is won't impede playing or anything. Is it a little sloppy? Yeah, but they're built to a certain price point. If the rest of the guitar pleases you I wouldn't let that bother you too much.

Looks like the binding was filed while filing the fret ends.
It could have happened at the plant, it could have happened at the dealer.

It's never gonna fix itself and while fixing that with a mix of CA glue and baking soda
(I'm no expert on that) could maybe be possible, it would be a lot of work.
If it bothers you send it back.
If not and the rest of the guitar suits you fine, keep it.

In the end, do what you're comfortable with.
Our opinion is good to have but you're the owner.

Agreed and well said.

Unless it was sold as a factory second on an expensive LP I would not tolerate shoddy craftsmanship at all regardless how insignificant it appears to others
