oh, I think he is
Indeed. His record sales with Dire Straits and as a solo artist speak for itself -
add to that the quite extensive touring he's done through the years with great succes,
I'd say Knopfler is a worldwide known and highly recognized & respected artist . .

Maybe what Mark B. mean is MK's work should be even more (?) appreciated,
well to that I would only agree.

I saw him in Liverpool with the Notting Hillbillys in the early nineties. I don't remember him playing any Les Pauls but he did use the famous National I think.

Thanks Planks ! :D
Really enjoyed all of this.
For me Marks Les Paul tone on Brothers in Arms is the epitome of what a vintage Les Paul should sound like
This is the benchmark I set for for all of my LP's

Great thread. I've always loved that '58. Going to see MK perform in Spain on 31st July! A dream come true for this Chicago boy.

You lucky.......!

Have a good concert , and remember to give us a review if possible!
It was a bit of a disaster, they shut the M6 motorway and we were diverted and instead of getting there at 7.30 we got there at gone 9 just in time for the last 4 songs. We were well pissed off after 6 hours of bumper to bumper tailbacks. What we saw was very good but we did'nt see much. :D

That's a Tone King Imperial, basically a Fender Deluxe Reverb and a Tweed Deluxe in one. He uses one (set for clean on the rhythm channel) on his regular tour. Not sure whether he gets the overdrive from the amp here, he might as well have used a pedal.

Thanks for the video!

Loved that part at 18:00, "It was the nature of the sound that made me change the music all around."
