Maple top thickness at the control cavity

I'm thinking about routing the control cavity of my LP standard in the same way the reissues and vintages are (angled), so I can mount short shaft pots in it.
Could somebody tell me which is the thickness I should keep at the pot holes, so it's not too thin or too thick?

Take a little bit off at a time, then check often, by inserting the short shaft pot.
