It's totally unfair that (in most cases) we outlive our dogs. A good one really is the most loyal companion you could ever ask for. I'm sorry about Crow Dog, but be happy in knowing you gave him the best life he could have asked for.

I'll chime in again, as a man who has gone through this, as I am sure many others have as well.

I feel you on this.
There is a light at the end.

My sequence has been as follows;

Cry like a baby, mourn, swear to never get another dog, and move on.

Two things have happened with that.
One, another dog finds it's way into my life and I love it as much as the previous dog.
Two, once the pain wears off, all that is left are the pleasant memories, and that stays forever.

Sorry for the loss. Thankfully my ex had to deal with our 16 year old Black Labs passing.
I couldn't have handled it. But i gave her support over the phone and helped her through the ordeal as best as i could.
Losing a family pet is like losing a child as far as i am concerned. It is never easy.
Have strength and be there for the rest of the family. Remember the good times.
