Man on LSD Saves Dog from Imaginary Fire

Man on LSD Saves Dog from Imaginary FireNYSP
Michael Orchard
An upstate New York man apparently high on hallucinogens broke into his neighbor's home to save their dog from what he thought was a burning home, police say.
There was no fire, state police told WNYT-TV. The man had consumed LSD and cough medicine and thought his neighbor's home in Saratoga County was being consumed by flames last Thursday.

He went around his Halfmoon neighborhood banging on doors and yelling about a fire, WNYT reported. When no one would help, he drove his black BMW sedan through his neighbor's fence, went to the back door and smashed through it to retrieve the dog.
He emerged triumphantly with the large white dog, and responding officers found him standing outside the home with the dog in his arms, police said.

"He believed that the residence was on fire and he was rescuing the dog," State Police Troop G spokesman Mark Cepiel said.
The man, 43-year-old Michael Orchard, was arrested on charges of burglary and criminal mischief. He was jailed on $15,000 bail.

I'll be honest, I was expecting 'Florida Man' to be involved somewhere in this story.
I bet the dog had a great time anyway.

That's awesome!

Too bad it involved the destruction of property, or it would be just funny.

I'd be pissed if my neighbor drove through part of my fence or house, even if he was on acid...

If I were the homeowner, I would want the damages covered, but I wouldn't want criminal charges against a guy who thought he was saving my dog (even if hallucinogenic drugs were the reason he thought the dog was in danger).

I think this would be my position on the situation, too. I believe that a person's character can be judged by how they treat animals, and even though the guy was trippin' balls, he saved the dog from (an albeit perceived) danger. I'd ask that any charges be dropped, that the damages to my property be paid for, and I'll buy the guy dinner and a couple beers while we talk about the dangers of psychedelics. But I wouldn't hold a grudge.

I'm sorry but there had to be something else going on besides some acid to make someone think a house was on fire.

Well, it's better than a real fire and an imaginary dog.

Having seen first-hand what people who are high on LSD are capable of, I would have shot the SOB.
