Im going to record a song tomorrow as a school project and it has to be an all acoustic project but I feel that my song requires some kind of synthesizer sound, so Im wondering if there are any effects or tricks that makes a piano sound like a synth.

This is the kind of sound that Im going for.

Is the Piano that you are using MIDI enabled? If so, setup the Mac with the kbd plugged in, set the insert element on the track you have setup for the keyboard to any of the zillions of synths that it comes with, send the line out of the mac to an amp and rock on.

is this recorded or a live performance. If it's recorded than you can mic the piano up and play what you need and in a audio program change it to be a synth sound

No unfortunately I have to use a grand piano :/
If it has to be acoustic, how are you going to get away with making it sound like a synthesizer, even if you could?

Sounds like a great way to get an "F". :hmm:

All the instruments has to be acoustic but you are allowed to change the sound with effects etc.

Best to forget the synth idea then.

Yeah it seems that Ill have to go down in the basement and see if I can find something else that can make a cool and useful sound.

Its going to be recorded.
Can you recommend a program that could do this or is it possible to do that in Logic?

If you mic the grand piano and then run the resulting track through any number of effects add-ons, I'm sure you can make it sound like a full-on cat fight.

If the piano track is separate, you can do this with any version of Logic > 5. Just start piling up the effects on the channel strip's insert section.

Try an Ebow on an acoustic guitar. It will sound synth-like.

what kind of synth sound are you going for?

Ring modulation might be worth playing with(I dont do it much personally) you can do a lot of shaping the piano sound with hipass and lo pass filters, filter sweeps with the lfo locked to the tempo can get some spacey sounds. Depending on the kind of synth you might want to dirty up the piano with some distortion or other saturation. And phaser/flangers/chorus effects can give it more a synth pad like vibe if you play the part the right way.

I think it is mostly about being really agressive in the way you use the effects so it no longer sounds natural.
