Any recommendations for the Bay Area here in CA?
I'm in San Jose and looking for somebody local.

Have you tried Gryphon in Palo Alto? Also, you might want to ask at Guitar Showcase.

In the Northern Sacramento area, Son/Father Guitars are excellent:

did I miss something, or did no one post a tech for Illinois and or Southern Wisconsin? There's a mountain of guitars in Illinois! Does anyone fix them in this neck of the woods?

I'm looking for someone in southwestern Wisconsin / eastern Iowa / northwestern IL also.

In Orlando, I use Guitar Factory:
Guitar Factory
2816 Edgewater drive
Orlando, Fl. 32804
800-541-1070
407-425-1070

They're the local factory authorized warranty centers for Taylor, Martin, Gibson, Fender and Ibanez. They do basic setups on Saturdays from 9-4 while you wait (truss rod adjustment, action, intonation, new set of strings).

Rich Beck is a luthier in Tempe, Az. Frails highly recommends him and I am going to be taking one of my guitars to him to have it repaired.

In Phoenix, AZ I use Guitar Electronics, GuitarElectronics.com GuitarElectronics.com Home Page. Never been anything but happy with their work.

Their work is great, but they are the slowest store on the planet. It's been damn near two weeks and I haven't gotten my guitar back yet. I dropped it off to have the wiring cleaned up and a new cap installed. They said three to four days and here I am two weeks later with no word. My buddy took his Marshall in there and they said two weeks. Two and a half months later he got it back.

Does anyone know any luthiers in lancashire or Manchester in England?

Blimey, another Prestonian...

There are a few round here. I use Brian Eastwood in Stacksteads. He does a great job, but there are others closer to home.

Tony Questell - Swansboro,NC
910-326-1692

This guy is a machinist and guitar luthier. He installed a Floyd on my Strat when others said it couldnt be done because of neck radius. He had it done the same day I dropped it off.

please add an international section (Australia first )

this is my little black book from when i lived in southern Aust:

Ian Noyce [http://www.noyceguitars.com/] phone +3 5330 2244 - near Ballarat. Worth the price of courier, or trip to see him. He taught me a bunch.

James Mumford [james@mumfordguitars.com.au] - Warrnambool, visits melbourne city though.

James Cargill [cargill@alphalink.com.au] - southern suburbs of melbourne. Though I have never met him, his work is exemplary.

All these are recommended by me; whilst others I have used are not.

EDIT: if those from other Aust states want to PM me (with recommendations, stating that they have actually used the luthiers, and also stating what they have used them for), I will edit this post.

Here are the 3 I've been to here in North Texas (DFW Metro)

Little ''d' Guitars
Gregory Lange
124 Austin Street, Denton, TX 76201
(940) 898-0120
littledguitars@gmail.com

His store hours are Saturdays only, but you can call him and schedule an appointment. He fixed the headstock crack on my Les Paul and has done all the work on my guitars for over a year now, awesome guy. He mostly works on acoustic instruments for UNT students so Violins and Upright basses are the norm there. He's my favorite go to guy, and will probably stay that way.

Sky Guitars
Erik Anderson
110 Congress, Denton TX 76201
(940) 387-2637
erik@skyguitars.com

Erik does awesome work! But he's usually overwhelmed with stuff from the music school.. If you want something done and done well you can count on him, his store is also excellent.

Charley's Guitar Shop
Bryant "Pablo" Russell
2720 Royal Ln, Dallas, TX 75229
(972) 243-4187

It's Charley's, everything is A+. I had a strat refretted by them, awesome work. At some point everyone in the metro area has had a guitar there it seems.
