hey folks,
i have an offer to pick up a used EC 256 for $350 CAD. I've been toying with the idea of buying a single cut to abuse and modify the hell out of it.
what i'm thinking of doing was the following:
1) dye the fret board dark to look like ebony
2) make the finish slightly matte, with the back of the neck being super matte
3) whiting out all the pickups and pickup rings with either EMGs, or GFS redactive pickups
4) chrome bridge/saddle/knobs
5) maybe the tuners too?

I dont necessarily need another guitar. Already do have an Edwards and Gibson les paul that i LOVE. Debating on if the EC256 would keep me happy...or save and search longer to just go for the EC1000 series or the E-II and change the pickups on them?

its more for aesthetics than anything else, really.

would you go for it? is this a good deal?

If you can live with a thin U neck and very flat radius, why not?

I had a 256 VF and it was a damn good player, I think it would be a fun thing to do.

Refinish?

Doesn't it already have a decent looking poly finish like all the others?

Owned one years ago. Certainly needed better tuners. They were absolute crap from the factory. Upgraded pickups and it was good to go.

Side note also had made in Vietnam LTD Strat and Tele copies. Fantastic values and great with the mentioned tuner/pickup mods.

Go for it!

I had an LTD EC 300 that was fun to mod. I got it used for really cheap because someone drilled the top for a coil cut switch.

So, I drilled another hole for out-of-phase.

New Grover tuners, new Gotoh bridge, and new Gotoh aluminum tailpiece really improved the sound and feel.

And I put in a Seymour Duncan 59 neck and Custom Custom bridge. A great combination for a 24 fret guitar.

It was a fun guitar to play, but the neck was too thin for me, so I gave it to my nephew.

I say: buy your LTD and enjoy!

Best wishes,

Andrew

No, not refinish, but use that Scotch Brite pad to knock off the gloss a bit. More asthetic than anything else, really.

I'm picking up the white one. As much as I like the look, don't like the black binding as it really sets it apart from its white ec1000 and e-ii counterparts in snow/Alpine White
