This has probably been brought up before....but what do you think.... LP SPECIAL or STUDIO? I mean which would you prefer in overall appearance and sound.

i played a special and didn't find the p90 tone as amazing as it is in a SG with p90s. plus there was a lot of hum.

but i did like the double cut and easy fret access.

having said that if it was a toss up between a studio and a special i'd go studio.

They are so similar, for me it would come down to which one I could get a better deal on.

Just grab one or the other before the inevitable price increase. Base it on which sounds better and looks better to YOU.

ive owned a worn special wiyh p90s a worn special with humbuckers & 2 studios over the last year or so
didnt like the worn specials at all & would go with the studio
sold the specials & got an orville lp junior which knocked the socks off them both

as for the studios i had a new one & a 10 year old one which is way better again

I never got on with the worn nitro as it irritated the palms of my hand , cant say if this is a common problem also they just didnt do it for me tonewise maybe theyre using cheaper timber .Compared to the orville junior which rings like a bell they didnt come close in any way
They just feel cheaper to be honest ,between these & the new studio i got i lost a lot of respect for new gibsons
the old gibson studio i have is a lovely guitar & would reccomend you buy an old one or at least try it before you buy

I had a special and it was just as nice as any studio I've had, in every way.

I own both. Specials sound better with P90s IMO. My Special has P90s, but I have played a few with humbuckers but much prefer them with P90s. I've not played a special with humbuckers that sounds as good as my Studio or my Special. As far as which is the better guitar, I like the tone of them both but prefer the thicker neck of the Studio as far as feel. The Studio was the more expensive of the two. It was $1300 new where the Special was $600 used.

Is the studio cheaper than the special??

In my area the Studios start at $960 and the specials go for $1175. LP Juniors go for $860.
I currently have an 09 LP Special. I'm a big fan of P90's.
