I'm considering buying a Historic /Custom Shop Custom Les Paul.
I'm looking for information in a few areas.
Specifically, were they all 100% mahogany bodies ?
All long tenon construction ?
Last year with real ebony fretboard ?
Danke !

54 and 57 reissue Customs are all mahogany. Some have mahogany tops glued on, others are a single piece. Ones made before 98 or 96 (something like that) have short tenon and swiss cheese holes. Someone posted X-rays proving it.

I was including the '68s and '74s.

The original post didn't state which Reissie year Customs were being considered...

That's true Dan !
I'm looking for a black custom, prefer historic construction, 1 PC back, long tenon, real ebony board, humbuckers...I'd like a maple cap if possible.

Great info thanks again all !
- I've looked at a few 3 pickup versions ('57) as well, and the owners of a few claimed they had maple caps.
Quite the mysterious model these Customs are...

Some are all mahogany and some have the maple cap. I also prefer the maple cap on LP Customs.

IMO if you can find a older regular Custom Shop LP Custom go for it, 2005 or so. Most of them have the maple caps and ebony fretboards.

IMO do not worry about the tenon being short or long, it makes no tonal difference from my ownership experiences with both.

I have just bought a 2018 57 Custom and its one of the best Les Pauls i ever played, period. It rings like a bell, its articulate with so deep and rich tone - i am really amazed. Much better guitar than a 2005 version of the same model i once had. I recommend you 2018 one, albeit they are very pricey... At least they finally have historically accurate one piece mahogany body.

I believe since the 2013 CS anniversary Black Beauty they have all been one piece hog bodies. Previous years I don't think they is rhyme or reason and is hit or miss with one piece. Probably depends if it was made along with a a batch of special issues or not.

The nice thing about the '18s besides one piece body, is for the first time they have vintage accurate pick guard and knobs all of which I upgraded on my '14 B4 and my Colleti Black Beauties.
