I’ve been a strat guy my whole life, but always wanted to like an LP. Tried many over the years but something never felt right. Two weeks ago I tried an Epiphone Les Paul Custom at my local GC, and instantly loved it.

Did a bit of research and the consensus is that the 2020 refresh really brought these up a category. Since I’m not in the LP world, I’m not too sure how often these are refreshed.

Is there word of a refresh to these coming soon? Meaning this may be a “bad” time to purchase?

If you've found something you really are happy with, buy it. Even if there is a "refresh" in the offing there'd be no guarantee it'd result in anything you'd actually be bothered about/want - quite the reverse is not uncommonly the case IME.

If it's the regular Insoired By Gibson Custom NO there isn't any refresh that i know of. Now there are the customs like the Adam Jones with nicer specs long neck tenons but you going to pay 1299 bucks for that one. I have the 2021 Custom and it's just fine guitar plays nice!!

No time table for new and improved models. At this point it will be little things most likely. New pickups are the only likely real improvement that may come but who knows when.

The Epiphone Les Paul Custom- Jerry Cantrell WINO is my favorite Custom. You get a beautiful Wine Red finish, custom neck profile, better pickups and a hard case, for only $50 more than a regular Custom.

I am really aiming for a Gibson Standard this time around but if I don't get enough money Then the wino is what I will get. I have always wanted one of these. I just hope it's not the same thing as my regular Custom thats what stop me the first time.....

Thanks all. My thoughts were also new model = discount on the previous. But I’ll grab this now! Thanks.
Yeah unfortunately if you are looking at the 2020 and up Custom then it is already refreshed. They have the GC Wino guitar and the Adam Jones guitar those are more money the Adam Jone's does have some different specs the regular custom does not have but it is also 1299 dollars....

I own the Wino and an Adam Jones Silverburst. They're both miles ahead of the regular Epi LP Custom

Yeah the Adam Jones for sure but I am not so sure about the JC wino it has the same specs as my 2021 Custom. Other than the color and the pups it is basically the same guitar as mine. The way I have my Custom set up with the SD pups and tone pro bridge pieces I just don't see it man. I mean it's a cool guitar and I definitely want one but I already see me having to upgrade the bridge pieces not sure what tuners it comes with I would imagine Grover's if i am lucky otherwise the Wilkinson tuners....

It's got Grover tuners, weight relief body, a better neck profile and the bridge pickup is the 98T Pro, which is KILLER.

Plus, it came with a hard case. All for only $50 more. I ended up selling my '22 Custom, mostly because of the neck profile. But my Wino isn't going anywhere.

Interesting. I don’t love the color and not really a big fan of Alice In Chains, but are the pickups really better than on the regulars? That and the case are easily worth the $50 if they are better.

Go try one, compare with the one you know you like. Buy what suits you. The grass is always greener, and all that...

So you're torn between buying a guitar you really like and have played and one you've never played/can't find and don't even like the look of? Your call, as it always is :) Don't let the herd make decisions for you would be my advice but YMMV :)

AHH for the extra 50 bucks it may be worth it to you. But remember 99% of the time with Guitar Center you can ask the sales guy for 100 bucks off and usually can use your savings for a case. I would call the store and talk to a sales rep.... They will work with you...

MUCH better. I gotta admit that I'm not a big fan of the Epiphone Probuckers. But don't just take my word, look up reviews for the Epiphone 98T Pro pickup that's in the bridge position. And the Alnico Classic Pro in the Neck position is no slouch either. I want sure how I'd feel about the finish either, until I saw it in person. It's gorgeous.
