Well slash uses a boss DD-3 if that helps. Its a pretty good delay and handles gain really well. Almost got one myself but I'm holding out for an analogue one first.

Walk into a store with a wide selection of delay pedal styles for sale, bring your own guitar and plug into the closest you can find to your own amp. Try as many pedals as your brain can manage, tweaking extensively with all controls.

Even if you don't find the pedal you really really want, at least you will know two things by the end:
- what kind of delay you prefer and a bit about how picky you are about it
- which price range gives you the best bang for currency

I don't have a specific recommendation for you as there are a multitude of options based on your personal tastes/wants.

Do you want analog, digital or tape?

How long a delay are you looking for?

Analog Delays: Although they're more limited in delay time ranges compared to Digital, their strong-side IMO is in the sound quality. They're not as likely to degrade the tone (especially the delay signals tone) as digital can. They are amazing to dial in nice, full and warm harmonics and for me, the harmonics are what make these my first choice.

Digital Delays: Generally, digital will give you the widest range of delay times. It's also more convenient to dial in exact times/tempos. On the flip side, they do tend to sound more synthetic and can break up awkwardly in certain scenarios. Most affordable and most models to choose from.

Tape Delays: Cream of the crop, but you pay for it. The warmest and fullest! Cons are, they are very expensive, bulky in size and most common to be problematic over time. Nice asset for studios, but not nice to take on the road. Notable that they are typically so warm and full, it may actually be a more "muddied" tone than desired if looking for crystal clear articulation.

TC Electronics Flashback
TC Electronics Nova Repeater
Boss DD line of pedals
Hardwire Delay
MXR Carbon Copy
Way Huge Aqua Puss

these will keep you busy for a while. But they are all different. Check their specs, listen to demos and try to play one or two yourself. Too many choices actually...

Hahahaha sorry I am posting this again. It has been in the classifieds, but no takers. I have a Boss DD7 in perfect condition you can have for cheap. It does way too for my style and I just want a simple analog delay. The DD7 does a nice analog emulation but too many choices for me. PM me if you want it.

A Carbon Copy is a good choice. It gets a little lost in the mix for me though. But still a good choice. An old DD-2 or the first DD-3 with the big chips are great delays. What I am throughly enjoying now (but it's out of your budget) is the Strymon El Capistan. To me it's like having one of those expensive rack delays in a pedal. It's that good.
