There's some nice places in N.C. Too...friendly people , pretty country and good hunting. I used to live in Butner and worked in Wake Forest and Rocky Mount.

I work for a large, VERY large utility company based in the Carolinas--I like the people for sure--Not sure I'd want to live there, as some of the cultural differences between me, and them, are why I want to leave--:hmm:

I am pretty sure I could live in Australia or New Zealand--

Never met a person from either country that I didn't feel an instant connection with---IMO both countries share the same adventurous spirit as most Americans--

I'd move there tomorrow---:thumb:

You must have very low standards.............it's where we dumped all the riff-raff till it became politically incorrect to do so.
They fool you into believing they are nice guys until you wake up in the morning with a sore-arse.:thumb:

New Hampshire is also a cool state. Maybe a tad pricey.

Try the tristate area where MD/WV/Penn are a hop skip and a jump from one another

I have wanted to explore New Hampshire and I have always heard nice things about it--But housing may be a bit on the expensive for us--I won't be selling a 300K home with tons of equity--

A state with Bears, Moose and good fishing and skiing--I'd do that!

I have though of moving to Portland, but I heard it's tough to find work there, at least for what I do. I live in West Oakland CA and can safely say... You don't want to live here! :laugh2:

Knowing where not to go, is just as important as where to go:laugh2::thumb:

Davis, California - Small college atmosphere. Two hours to the Pacific Ocean - surfing. Close to major cities - SF/Oakland - about 45 to Napa. Two hours to the Sierras/Lake Tahoe - skiing.

Homes are a bit pricey. Good schools - just don't protest, you will be sprayed.

Visitors - City of Davis

One evening as the sun went down
And the jungle fires were burning,
Down the track came a hobo hiking,
And he said, "Boys, I'm not turning
I'm headed for a land that's far away
Besides the crystal fountains
So come with me, we'll go and see
The Big Rock Candy Mountains

In the Big Rock Candy Mountains,
There's a land that's fair and bright,
Where the handouts grow on bushes
And you sleep out every night.
Where the boxcars all are empty
And the sun shines every day
And the birds and the bees
And the cigarette trees
The lemonade springs
Where the bluebird sings
In the Big Rock Candy Mountains.

In the Big Rock Candy Mountains
All the cops have wooden legs
And the bulldogs all have rubber teeth
And the hens lay soft-boiled eggs
The farmers' trees are full of fruit
And the barns are full of hay
Oh I'm bound to go
Where there ain't no snow
Where the rain don't fall
The winds don't blow
In the Big Rock Candy Mountains.

In the Big Rock Candy Mountains
You never change your socks
And the little streams of alcohol
Come trickling down the rocks
The brakemen have to tip their hats
And the railway bulls are blind
There's a lake of stew
And of whiskey too
You can paddle all around it
In a big canoe
In the Big Rock Candy Mountains

In the Big Rock Candy Mountains,
The jails are made of tin.
And you can walk right out again,
As soon as you are in.
There ain't no short-handled shovels,
No axes, saws nor picks,
I'm bound to stay
Where you sleep all day,
Where they hung the jerk
That invented work
In the Big Rock Candy Mountains.
....
I'll see you all this coming fall
In the Big Rock Candy Mountains

Brandon, Florida. sounds alot like what your looking for is my hometown.

lots of stuff to do around, one of the better school districts in the state, and anything and everything you want to do on that list is just a drive around town. housing markets kinda booming here, new suburbs pop up every couple of years or so...
