Hi everyone, first time builder here.
Ive been looking at some es 335 kits online as I’m looking to create one, but I don’t want to build the body. I’m mostly looking to paint, add inlays, and put the guitar together. I know parts are important, so I’m going to go with Tv Jones classic tv pickup in back, with Seymour Duncan jazz in front, bigsby gold tremolo bar/bridge and high quality tuners/ hardware.
The thing I’m unsure of is who to buy the body/ neck from. Anyone have a kit maker in mind? If not, what would be the best wood or biggest thing to look out for when buying a kit?
many tips appreciated. I’m sure people will tell me this is a tough guitar for a first build, that may be.. I have a lot of skills I feel are applicable to doing this build. I can solder/weld, I’ve painted cars, created custom paintball gun bodies, I’m an engineer by trade.. etc. aannnnd I watched a YouTube video so I must be an expert
.

thanks for the advice!

Precision kits are a great option for a quality kit both from workmanship and from wood grade used.
They used to be fairly close to the originals but now they use body shapes and headstocks that are not the same because Gibson hassled them at some point. Also, the cost is pretty high. There are so many good MIJ options out there. The main thing would be if you wanted something with mini humbuckers or a really fat neck profile.

+1 for PGK. Good quality materials, but for me the best bit about them is the outstanding fretwork. I last ordered from them a couple of years ago so this may have changed since but at least at the time it was leagues better than any other kit on the market.
