Same here.
Bought it "smoked" and the smell is still there.

Had it re-fretted and new saddles and bone nut installed)
(had been converted to lefty by the previous owner).
The luthier (an experienced skilled person) tried to clean it but did not succeed!
Still smells bizarre after 20 years.
If you start smoking cigarettes you will soon no longer notice that the guitar smells bad, as you will too. Problem solved. You’re welcome.

Have you tried putting it into a room with an ozone machine? These are very effective in removing bad smells. And are also dangerous to your health - read and follow instructions.

The $800 Classic. Annie. She’s got some legit play wear.

This is my 1976 SG Custom with three period double cream DiMarzios. I’ve owned it for well over twenty years and it was my number 1 for over ten years. I never cared for the peace symbol that some fool glued onto it but my wife says that it speaks to the era. Note the Grover Imperial tuners and the Kahler with the palm bar; I also have the original longer bar. It weighs 7 pounds 9 ounces and it sounds huge and powerful.

I took a guitar master class that Dweezil Zappa gave and after the class he signed my guitar. He was on the Dweezil Zappa Plays Whatever the Fuck He Wants tour. The concert after the class was fantastic and being in the class got me into the front row. What a great night that was.

There is finish checking in many places, mostly in long lines but they are difficult to photograph. The forearm wear at the edge of the body was done by me from hours of playing. When I bought the guitar the finish was intact and there was no finish checking yet.

This is my 1981 Standard goldtop. The forearm wear is intense and the copper flakes in the paint have greened to a beautiful shade. Also, when not strumming the guitar it would appear that the former owner would rest his picking forearm along the bottom of the body, note how the finish has changed there in the shape of a forearm. Playing in a seated position my arm fits perfectly in that area of wear. Around the volume and tone knobs the finish is starting to go green. The fretboard inlays are beautiful. It weighs 9 pounds 12 ounces.

Never tried that.
I'm not sure I would trust a $129 machine from Amazon to produce anything real !
Well, maybe some noise and humidity.

IIRC ozone will cause the plastics to deteriorate, although if you removed them it would work well for the smell.

With what seems to be an ever increasing majority of Les Pauls being bought pre-reliced, I thought it would be fun to see your guitars that look reliced because you actually PLAY them!

I don't have a Les Paul that looks like this- but I DO have a Mexican Strat that I have actually worn through the lacquer. Dunno if it' poly or refin nitro but it's looking cute!

@JMT Guitars. I like your worn in fretboard. Slightly off-topic, but is that a mint green pickguard on your MIM Strat?
