March 69 converted with real 59 PAF's and Faber HW, She's been played hard around the world through the years, though she's too heavy for me for stage now, so I play a Junior clone, a The Paul II, and a chambered Vintage Mahogany Studio more these days LOL!

Mine looked a lot like yours in terms of a mat sheen to the lacquer, caused by a million swirl marks and small scratches (and sweat). I polsihed it once, ten years ago, and have kept it clean since.

I (very carefully) wet-sanded with 1000 & 2000 grit before polishing. That worked great.

Same here.
Bought it "smoked" and the smell is still there.

Had it re-fretted and new saddles and bone nut installed)
(had been converted to lefty by the previous owner).
The luthier (an experienced skilled person) tried to clean it but did not succeed!
Still smells bizarre after 20 years.
