I wasn't saying Gibson "mods" aren't real. I was meaning that just changing the knobs is not really a mod and that Fenders are more moddable.

I will say it. If an adjustment to the guitar is pretty much reversible to new, to me it is an upgrade at best. A modification is something that's permenant. Paint, drills, routes, those are mods. New pickguard, new caps and pots, new pups, new tuners (even if you have to drill to put on the new set), stuff like that are upgrades. That's the way I see it anyway, no doubt opinions differ.

Another way I would describe it would be an upgrade improves the guitar in general. A modification improves the guitar to the specific player.

So if I instal pickups that are generally agreed to be better quality than those it came with, that's an upgrade. But if I instal pickups that are generally thought to be poorer quality than the ones it came with, but I like them, that's a modification.

????????

That's what you got from my post? I believe that a modification is something which will never bring the guitar back to original.

Poorer upgrades are subjective. There's no reason to swap pups to something you don't like as much. Personally, I prefer many GFS pickups to Gibson pickups so that would be an upgrade to me.

It was the logical conclusion of the definition you gave and that I quoted. The trouble with the definition you suggest is that it attempts to make an objective definition on the basis of a subjective perception, as you imply in the most recent post.

Love the stripped back and sides! Thought about doing this. Did you finish the wood with something? If so, what did you use?

Sprague Caps, Custom Hand Wound PU's (Reverends/billy gibbons prototype)

I see a broken headstock in your immediate future (no strap locks, hanging off the edge of a 1/2 stack, tail strap attachment flipped over and ready to pop off).

Not officially 'mods', just cosmetics; I'm too chicken to snip and solder (so far...); undecided on poker chip. May go with the cream chip and covers, tho I really like the vibe as she sits.
Amber tip
Mix of top hats + reflectors
Removed poker chip
Blank truss rod cover
