I do my pedals like this now, no wiring, except for the battery cable:

+1. That is an amazing bit of work. I'm just soldering flying leads onto some clone boards at the moment, and I feel quite humble in comparison - great bit of work.

PMcG, yep etched and polished. :)

There's some pretttttty nice builds on here!! I can't single out which ones I like best, but the different approaches to all the finishes leave me feeling like I've walked into a candy store. :)

Ummm some of you have too much time on your hands :)

I built a few and I don't think I have pictures of them. I built a Fuzz and a MXR Distortion plus.

I've got to start building pedals and clone a Uni-Vibe V-1. Seems complicated to do both chorus and vibrato and I'm not sure where to even begin.

You should begin with something simple.

diystompboxes has a beginner project:

After that check out an overdrive and then if you feel comfortable, move on to modulation effects.

Finished up a mod to my own pedal which turns the Rat into a "Bastard Rat". Flexy clip DIP switch to control clipping over silicon, LED, germanium, and MOSFET -- plus all sorts of mix-and-match options (asymmetric, no clipping, etc).

Basically makes it a stock Rat, Turbo Rat, You Dirty Rat, and more with a flip of a switch. Would have used a rotary but this way I'm locked into a choice and when I get bored there's always options under the hood.

Wow! You guys do some great work! I'm hoping to get into DIY pedals. I've already modded a DS-1. It sounds better but still not great. And I'm putting a Whipple kit into my crybaby as soon as Bob the Mailman brings it.

I assume that these are kits that you guys are putting together? Is there a preferred source? I'm thinking of starting with a tubescreamer kit.

Matt

PS. Alligatorbling - I LOVE that paint!

thanks man!

what kind of mods did you do to your DS1? minor, major? how confident do you feel with larger projects? building a kit seems easy enough, and in all honesty if your handy with a soldering iron and can follow directions, its not all that hard, however attention to detail is where its all at. you put the wrong value in the wrong spot, or one wire in the wrong spot and your whole pedal could turn out a dud, then you retrace alllllll your steps to find out you made one mistake lol.

id reccomend starting out with something simple for your first build, a green ringer would be perfect.

if you wanted a little more of a challenge id try a booster

or, you could dive in head first with a tube screamer kit, but be aware that it will be a little more of a challenge than the others if this is your first build.

I don't use kits, never have.

Do you make your own enclosures and pcb's too? I see lots of detail on your pedals - very nice btw!

Keeley seeing eye and ultra mods. Relatively simple. But I'm very comfortable with a soldering iron, and larger projects don't intimidate me at all. Besides, when I jump, I tend to jump with both feet!
