Just got this email from Reverb:

You're on track to continue selling on Reverb

We just need a few more details to verify your identity. This is a requirement for all marketplaces and helps keep our community safe.

Before you start:

You'll need a valid government-issued ID handy, as well as access to a phone camera. (If you’re registering as a business, you’ll need your business’ tax documents instead.)

Dear Reverb Customer Service,

Seven years I’ve been buying and selling on their platform, after eBay had become a complete clusterfxck.

Well, Reverb started getting stupid so I quit selling through them.
I’ll still buy, until they completely screw that up too.

So now I need to be “verified”?
Post a government ID on any website?
I think not.
Gubmint regulations or not.
Bite me.

That’s very strange. I don’t remember having to do that.

Maybe I’m grandfathered in.

Check your email.
I've never received anything like that from Reverb.
I do have the app installed on the phone, but have always bought through the web interface on the desktop.

Just logged in to browse on the desktop and the only thing it required was that I provide a code that they had emailed me.

Reverb’s best kept secret.
You should be using this feature!

Anyone here set up the My Collection thing on Reverb?
I still believe 100% that it’s intended to serve as a prelude to tracking EVERYTHING that happens on the platform, to comply with the $600 taxation threshold.

Ebay was so convenient.
Then they got huge, and greedy, and then got regulated.
Funny how Reverb went even worse.

Ebay was great until it got taken over by counterfeiters and scammers.
Most legit vendors and drop shippers moved to Amazon, private party sellers got buried by the scammers.

I got that email a few weeks ago. I had to upload my TX D.L.

I just sold a Marshall amp and a Gibson Les Paul last week.

Life goes on.

I am not a seller, only a buyer. I have not received any such request from Reverb.

If I can't sell it here on MLP, I will sell it to my buds at Atomic Music or Guitar Center just to avoid the hassles.

no such email yet. I would check the header to be sure it's actually from Reverb. I would never send a photo of my DL to any unsolicited email. I'd go to their site first and see if anything comes up there. Way too many phishing scammers out there. Give them a picture of your DL? Might as well give all your banking info, SSN#, street you were born on, favorite pet name and whatever else you can think of.

Reverb has my email address and name. I only browse there because any used gear I bought was cheaper in Canada at Long & McQuade.

Yes, does sound like a scam. A recent Malwarebytes newsletetter thing detailed something awfully like this.

I never click on a link in an email like this one. I will go to the site where I do business, Reverb, financial institution, etc., and see if I find what's being requested on my own.

I do a fair amount of business on Reverb and they do ask some to verify their identity. Not a scam, in general. Of course, some may try to copy the request and make a scam.

Yeah, fuck Reverb.

If I really need to sell something I throw it on eBay and do reasonably well.
