I totally agree with you, man.

Rinkya is great and saved me a lot.....but proceed with caution. I live life on the razors edge (yes I do) and I'm prepared to take a risk. To date I have had 6 headstocks snap, real bad packing, received a different package, stung BIG!! time with customs and had so many guitars that were, lets say photoed in a different light.

No worries letting the secret out Tonebone, it was bound to happen. The exchange rate the way it is has put a stop on my hoarding.

I knew there were risks. Thanks for making that clear for the curious (and me!). The photo's are, shall we say, not the best on some of the offerings.

I have always preferred the company of risk takers! You rock, UITA!

There are some good folks on this forum. Here's to hoping some of them get a good deal on a MIJ! Cheers!

My Orville Custom BB-paid $650 USD shipped, and with original USA pups. The big one in the avatar. I have not played a better guitar. I got lucky-second happy buy from same seller and already in the US.It is reliced by the passage of time , played but respected. It stays-unless the amber plain top classic, 2001, dark mahogany back and neck is equal to it-and I am not betting on that. It isn't here yet. It, the classic, has SD and JB pickups instead of ceramic alnicos. Since it is not a premium collector's guitar, don't mind the change and my delinquent but well meaning client picked and committed on it. I have enjoyed three studios but they aren't the same, are they?ole'lefty

Hahaha ok then the high end tokai you showed me was $1389+140 shipping to the states plus customs duties so near $1550-1600.

why would I want that: $1500-$1600

When I can have this: $1600 and I can try it out in my hands before I buy it, Instead of buying sight unseen from ebay, there are alot of great Gibson Les Paul Standards in that price range

The only Gibson guitars that I would even consider buying anymore are the R9 and R0, other than that I would take almost any MIJ guitar without hesitation.

My Orvilles are the reason I no longer own any Gibson Les Pauls.

I think you would want to go for the Tokai 'cause it blows a Gibson Standard out of the water, anytime! These Tokais from LS-150 up are all handmade custom orders and are easily at Gibson Custom Shop level (for a third of the price?). And even the lower Tokai models have features that a Gibson Standard won't give you, f.e. long neck tenon.
I said it before and I'll say it again, after I got my Tokai I stopped thinkin' about ever buying a Gibson.
But each to his/her own.

Don't like that price?
How about this one?
Tokai TOKAI LS-150【クロサワ楽器店】
126000 yen = $1271 usa roughly.
Ebayers always mark up a little higher than the Japan music stores.
that's why I prefer to go through
someone like Ishibashi or Kurosawa.

someone on another forum wants to trade me a white '06 studio for my Edwards custom. i'm not sure i'm completely sold on the white. it does have black hardware though, which is a plus. if if was black i'd do it in a heartbeat, i'm just not sure about the white.

what do you guys think?

Dude, you keeding me?

You're not really considering that deal, are you?
I haven't played an Edwards yet but if someone would offer me a Gibby Studio for my Tokai, I would ask him how he wants to pay for the other half of my guitar!
