i Have a standard 2001 honeyburst 60's neck .

Im looking at a local kijiji ad .. a 2011 standard honeyburst premium AAA ( seller is asking 2000 $ )

is there something different between both guitar . ive never tried a standard ... it says 60's neck ... but i think its assymetrical .. is it similar ??

i would also check for authenticity . theres a sticker on the bridge pickup that say "plek"

Gibson les paul standard premium AAA honey burst 2011 MINT paul standard

im 90 % its not a fake but just to be sure .

it look good although the grian of the wood seem a bit weird at a few place ..

whats your thought .

if i make the move i would have both Standard in honeyburst color .. not that i care .. its just that standard are harder to find in canada ( kijiji ) . i could wait for a while before finding one in my color .

my main concern is the NECK

between a 2001 standard and a 2011 standard .. any difference in feel and quality . ??

It looks like the real thing to me. I don't know the differences between a 2001 standard and a 2011 other than the push/pull pots and printed circuit board in the control cavity. :thumb:

By the way, that's a nice looking figured top on that 2011. :applause:

2001 Standard was swiss cheesed, 2011 is weight relieved, also the 2001 models were plain tops and they had figured maple in 2011

it looks real to me based on the limited pics.

If the neck is asymmetrical, it isnt as thin as a 60's all around. Think of it as a hybrib. It's thick (not baseball bat like) on the low end side, and then the high end side the should tapers off quick (like a soft v) so your fingers have more room to get to the fingerboard. Personally i find it to be extremely comfortable.

That does not look like Honeyburst to me. Dark edges. Was Honeyburst ever done as an edge burst? It looks to me a lot like Desert Burst.

Actually, a 2011 will be chambered.

Not sure on the specs for a 2001 but the 2011 will have Tonepros bridge and locking stopbar. The tuners will be Grover locking and it will have a Locking Neutrik Jack. Pickups are Burstbucker Pro's. Gibson used AA Grade tops with an asymmetrical neck.

I'd keep the 2001.

That would be a 2012 Spec. It's what they call a modern weight-relief.

This is a 2008 Spec. (2008-2011)

that's what I meant by 'weight relieved'! Hollowed out inside! :p

Guess I need to keep up with the nomenclature ;)

And there's the "Swiss Cheese" pattern!

The V in the "Modern" pattern makes for faster chops!
