Hey guys,

I got a question about the dot of the Gibson logo.
I know it doesn´t make the sound and it´s just optical, but it still bothers me.

I got a brand new les paul standard (2019) and the dot of the headstock logo is extremly dull.
I have never seen this before.
When I look up other les pauls of 2019 there dots are as bright as the rest of the logo.

Is this a flaw or just the nature of the material?

If I look at the logo from other (more extrem) angels the dot is even brighter than the rest of the logo,

So is there a way to ´renew´ the logo without changing the whole neck or headstock?

Thanks in advance!

I've had a few the exact same way. It's annoying.

Okay so it seems to be more common. Dang!

Thanks for your help.
I can only imagine that the "Gibson" comes out of one pile and the "dots" another. Not cut from the same piece. I'd bet the custom shop are. Idk.

I thought about the same thing. Pretty annonying even if it´s just a detail.

Do they still use MOP or what is it?

Just for laughs . . . Put a piece of black tape over it like an eye patch, when people ask about it you can show them your "Bad" eye, say its cataracts.

Leo Fender This guitar innovator along with Les Paul are often cited as the two most influential figures in the development of electric instruments. He lost an eye in a childhood accident with a farm cart

So my lady just got a strong character. I will live with it.
Maybe one day I will love the character.

At least it´s a freaking les paul and I love it.

The fret inlays are acrylic for sure.
I just wasn´t sure about the logo.

Thanks all for the help.

It’s not a flaw, it’s a feature. All MOP looks different from different angles.

Its MOP, a natural bone like substance. Which means its not a generic white colour for every single part of it.

Maybe natural products are just not your thing. Hate to hear your assessment of wood......omg, its got these horrible swirly lines all over it, why can't it just all be the same

I'm afraid I must disappoint you. I do like natural products.
I just wasn't sure about the material.

It feels different whether it's a generic acrylic logo (like the fret inlays) which is flawed or whether it's a natural MOP logo where every logo looks different of course.

Natural products are like fingerprints. No one is like another and that's pretty cool.

You guys helped me, I'm fine with it and you don't have to worry about the wood stuff.

In 1969, the dot was completely missing.

Every year during the Norlin period there were some that didn't have dots.....No one year that there was none throughout.

I have '77 with no dot....

...and a '78 with a dot

And this covered all models except those with gold silkscreen Gibson logos which had their dots.

I have an SG that the entire Gibson logo is pretty faded looking straight ahead but at certain angles it looks fine. Almost made me not buy it when I first saw it.
