Hey guys
I used to own a Gibson Les Paul Classic Gold Top many years ago and unfortunately had to sell it due to circumstances at the time. I no longer play in a band and only play at home for my own amusement along to CD's and backing tracks etc and following a recent unfortunate car accident it has however provided me with the funds to replace my Les Paul (out of court settlement)

I was looking into a Marshall Plexi and a Les Paul Standard but other forums have advised me against the Plexi idea as in order to get the sounds im after you have to crank it so home use is a no no.

Again there is a plus to this, this now enables me to buy my dream guitar. A Les Paul Custom Shop 58/59 or something similar. I love Tobacco burst finishes and chunky necks so was hoping posting here you guys would be able to help me out. I'm not looking brand new as i know it would spend more time in its case then being played if i got a new one at 5 grand a pop so my budget is 2.5k max.

What ya reckon guys?

Those 1-watt Marshalls give you all the tone with no shattered glasses.

The one-watt Marshalls have also swooned in price since their intro. Giving you more money for the 58/59.

The GoldTop pic above is a (googled) '57 reissue 2005!

Happy hunting- classifieds here, reverb, eBay are all places I would start.

Look on member classifieds here first. There are some great guitars here and great people to deal with. I bought my 2007 R9 on here and couldn't be happier.

Since you´re playing at home and planning to play along with backing tracks, have you considered a Yamaha THR?

I simply love my THR-10

Do these little Marshalls sound good? If you have some experience with them, let me know. Looking for a little amp that sounds big so I don't drive my wife crazy.

Yes they sound amazing. I have had the DSL1 and now have the JVM1 and they are flat out awesome. I run it through a Marshall 4X12 and it just flat out sounds huge. Great recording amp, great home practice amp.

I also have a Marshall JTM 1 and I love mine. What kind of music are you going to be playing? 60s , 70s . The 1 watt Marshalls are killer little amps. I am going to be adding a jtm 1 soon, or maybe a jcm 1.

So want to know if they sound good? This is the JVM1, I recorded today the left and right guitars are the JVM through a marshall 4x12 with V30's. I am still working on finding the sweet spot, but the recording will give you an idea.

I'm going to be listing a new in box DSL1h with a 1931 Marshall 1 12 cabinet loaded with a 1984 G12 75. PM me before it gets listed... They go fast... Especially with this 1 12 cab.

??? Huh? I don't even understand what this means?
Another option would be the YJM Plexi. 0.1 to 100 watts.

I have tried 3 of the one watt Marshalls, and own the JMP-1 combo. I believe the majority love how the one watt Marshalls sound- it's the practicality and price than get people down.

But prices on these have dropped some, and if your best friend isn't a drummer, and you have the bread. I would recommend- but even at one watt- they can be LOUD. The low power switch helps though.

I use the JMP for some home practice- playing along with cds / records, and some recording.
