I’m about to take my Tribute to have it setup for drop A# tuning with 12-62’s. I know they’ll have to cut the nut.

My question is, is there an aftermarket nut y’all recommend that I buy, so that I can keep the factory one in case I ever want to go back to how it currently is?

I would suggest unless there is something wrong with the current nut installed to just have the current nut slots re-sized for the new strings. there is nothing special about the nut on it that you would need to keep it. and it might break when being removed depending on how well it is glued on.

but regarding your actual question you would probably want to go with either a new bone nut or maybe the synthetic graphtech Tusq nut. it's personal preference regarding which one you were to chose.

good luck!

Yeah, if the nut has never been cut, it needs it anyway.
A slightly bigger slot won't affect anything, if you decide to go back to 10's.
The depth will be the same. Slot will just be slightly wider.
Regardless of string gauge. Nut slot depth will not change.
The bottom of the string will still be the bottom of the string.
If the tech knows what he's doing, the current nut will be fine.
Since Gibson fired all their well-compensated luthiers. Nut slots have been atrocious.
First thing I do on all new Gibson's is file the slots, so that they don't play sharp at first fret.

Thanks for the replies! That makes everything a bit easier then by just having the one on there cut
