Plexi70- I agree; 500k Volume pot and 250k Tone pot in a Junior. Could you please educate me on what a "TVT" pot is? Thanks.

Historic Makeovers - CTS 500k, True Vintage Taper pots.

I tried the RS pots with 50s style wiring and they’re nice but they do have a sudden ramp in the volume between 9-10 whereas the sweep of the TVT pots are nice and even as it pertains to volume and/or gain control. Some players seem to like that sudden ramp - others don’t. I find that the tone pot works wonderfully when the volume pot has a nice even sweep - allows more fine tuning with tone knob.

I'm really enjoying mine, here's a shot of it with my '59 Melody Maker with a lollar P90

I'm glad I own both. The MM is a sweet guitar with that legendary '59 neck and old growth wood, and has a nice full sound. The Jr is punchier and a bit more articulate but still has plenty of growl. I picked up the MM as a "poor man's Jr" but they really are each their own animal.

Damn it. My '07 Junior has been getting "The (trade-in?) Eye" from me lately. I'm finding it a bit upsetting, but a Junior with a fat neck? Ain't nothin' like it.

Update on wiring kit upgrade from 2018 Jr owner (Garnet P.). The RS Guitarworks kit does include the 250K audio taper Tone pot. Here is what was included in the vintage pre-wired kit for Jr....per RS site Each kit comes with: (1) 500K RS Short-Shaft SuperPot™ - designed these pots in conjunction with CTS. Used for the volume control in the kit, this pot has a custom taper that gives a noticeable difference between each number on volume control. You can roll your volume down to 2 or 1 and not lose clarity. Mil-spec construction and a smoother resistor path. (1) 250 CTS Short-Shaft Audio taper pot.(1) Vintage RS GuitarCap Paper In Oil .022. RS new Vintage 200 volt Paper In Oil (PIO) capacitor.

Yeah, the Logo looks like the '40's Banner J45's, and the newer reissue J35 Banners.

Is the neck a fat 50’s or more like a ‘59?

I’ve played 60’s and 50’s neck shapes- prefer 50’s but recall an awesome neck profile on a ‘14 melody maker which I was told is more like a ‘59. I really liked it.

The 2018 Jr’s neck is very close to my original 1957 Junior. Much thicker and “C” shape. Not a ‘60’s “D”. My 1957 Junior has a neck shape similar to ‘59 LP RI. I have a ‘57 Goldtop RI and the LP Jr is not as large as the ‘57 GT RI. The 2018 I depicted has a great feeling full size “C” neck. Extremely comfortable and not thin.

I like it a lot. Wait for a used one to come up. If you're lucky the previous owner can break it in for you, then you get it for a discount!

There is one of these in my future for sure. Have to wait a year for the price to come down.
Now if they drop an accurate double cut I'm all in.

Yeah, I was able to take a look at multiple 2018 LPJ and they had slightly different color shades... so YMMV...

Very nice congrats. I'm really liking these Juniors.
I'd question the black case however? Did you purchase from an online based store or through a brick and mortar? I've not seen a Gibson advertised with a black case for this years line up. You could contact Gibson and as them (if it bothers you that it, personally it would me).

that case would bother me b/c I'd think whoever you bought it from switched it out.

. . . I'd question the black case however? . . .

that case would bother me . . .

I can't speak to whether that particular case came with that particular guitar from the factory. I have no idea.

What I can say is that when Gibson says that they reserve the right to change specifications at their discretion, they really mean it. They will do what is necessary to move guitars out the door, specifications be damned.

More often than not, the change benefits the customer. That's why you get threads with guys saying hey, my guitar is supposed to have an "A" rated top, but look at all this wild flame!

It's been that way for many years and multiple owners. I have a Norlin-era Kalamazoo acoustic that is supposed to have a two-piece laminate back. But mine has four bookmatched pieces of solid rosewood. They were out of the laminate that day, so they said, hey, let's go to the rosewood scrap bin and make some gee-tars.

Wouldn't surprise me in the slightest if they are using up all the black cases they have left before they start shipping the new (brown?) ones.

so a case from close to decade ago is an "upgrade?" I'm not saying its a bad case, I've got a few, but if the website shows case A and I get case B without an explanation or refund, I'd be pissed... but that's just me
