Thanks for the work you've put into this.

Not sure about the brass nut thing though. That was a trendy thought in the early 1980s but I haven't heard that espoused for decades.
Actually, I played a Firebird with a factory brass nut for a while. The tone was unique--it sounded as if each note was double-tracked.

Good article Alex, I can tell you are a fan.

I’m sorry I really don’t want to be a pedantic twat, but the all-American selection at the start are actually all English bands.

All of them heavily by American influenced music, no question but English nonetheless.

Fleetwood Mac became an Anglo-American band but Oh Well is still during Peter green’s time.

Constructive criticism mate, I’d hate a simple mistake to spoil an otherwise good piece of writing.

Besides us brits don’t have a lot to shout about just now, we can’t afford to lose Led Zep!

Here's an article about Les Paul copies if anyone's interested in reading: https://www.geartalk.com/les-paul-copies/
Good read, Alex.

I liked the mention of difference between replica vs copy. Interesting....

Some may blather on some copy/replica brands not mentioned but there are too many to mention....

Ibanez, Electra, Navs, Burny, Squier, DeArmond, Guild, Fuji, Gak, etc... Yaron and such on the high dollar replica side

No telling what all 'Uncle Mat' copied over the years....and under how many different names... Same for Fuji, Gak, Teisco, etc...

Just too many to cover...

Many of the copies were made by just a handful of companies methinks...

I remember 'House Brands' for big music stores waaaay back... They'd contract overseas for their own 'brand' which was NOT the name of the store.... It was like slinging a box of scrabble tiles and finding some that formed a word and that became the 'house brand'... You'd see the same guitars but multiple brand names....

Chibs, Chenders, Cheinbergers, Chusic Mans, etc., can be ordered with about any name one would want on it.... They don't much care if you're willing to toss some extra chippies in....some will logo em for free.... Some already have the seemingly Chauthentic logo on the head...

Uninformed folks are taken every day by the above Chuitars....

I remember working at my late big bro's shop after school in the 70s... I well remember flipping through the Ibanez catalog at all the guitars they copied....Impressive copies... I think they copied about everything on the market, been on the market, or was likely to be on the market... Amazing....

Bro was a bassist and his fav Jazz Bass out of all of his was an old Fender we called the Black Beauty. Black, white guard, maple with black rectangles... Unreal bass. He later played an Ibanez Silver Series JBass that was a copy of the Black Beauty. Identical except for decal on head. He bought it after playing it just a minute or two. He said they must have had a Black Beauty and directly measured and copied it. It was exact except the Ibanez was a bit heavier.

I've played Ibanez Lesters that felt identical...

Good read. I think Slash still deserves to be included on the list even though he often used the Derrig - I mean he used real Gibsons on the records too, and owning the second Burst off the factory line is pretty amazing!
