Les Paul flametop reissue (pre-historic) plastics

I have read Mike Slubowski's articles and they're interesting but I still wonder which years the plastics on the back were brown. I have seen a 1986 in dark CHSB with the black covers.

From looking at pictures there are both black and brown in 1986 but '87, '88 and '89 all seem to be brown. Black covers starting again in 1990.
