Welcome and HNGD.

That's not a very good picture to give an accurate account of what you have. I don't know of many examples that have the block inlays and Les Paul model on the headstock. Are you certain that it isn't a fake?

The term Black Beauty has been thrown around a lot and the definition has changed. It does not appear to a Black Beauty from most definitions.

OTOH, it is black and it's a beauty. As long as it's not a fake, call it whatever you like.

I hope you didn't pay more than an Epiphone for that. (Note sharp horn).

Looks very suspicious. Has a sharp cut-away similar to the Florentine Les Paul, but I don't see F-holes. Also looks fairly thin. Plus, block inlays with no diamond inlaid headstock leads me to consider that this may be a reproduction. I suppose some custom ordering could be at work here. Call Gibson with the S/N and see if they can give you more information.

That doesn't appear to be a Gibson; 3 screw TRC, sharp horn cutaway.

Unfortunately, it appears to be a fake Gibson. I hope you have an opportunity to get your money back.

Maybe it's the photo.. but I'm not seeing back or neck binding. Headstock is way long. Horn looks low and cut off skew. Not a Black Beauty (for sure).. I don't think it's a Gibson either.

It's a fake. Even if it was real, it still is not a black beauty. A black beauty has 3 pickups. If it has 2 pickups it would be an ebony custom. At least that is what I have been told. But I may be mistaken.

No diamond inlay on the headstock is a dead giveaway. Add to the fact that the horn looks off and in conclusion it's unfortunately a fake.

OK, here's what info I have on file on the Black Beauty's and early Customs.

1954 Black Beauty 2p/u - neck P90 and bridge alnico 5 (precursor to the '57 p/u)
1957 Black Beauty 2p/u - neck '57 and bridge '57
1957 Black Beauty 3p/u - neck '57 mid '57 bridge '57
Les Paul Custom 2p/u - neck 490R and bridge 498T
Les Paul Custom Plus 2p/u - neck 490R and bridge 498T
Later Les Paul Customs 2p/u - neck '57 and bridge '57

That's the only early info I have at this time.
Meantime, no split diamond, no custom. The horn looks wrong and the headstock is rather large. So is the belly.
Sorry mate, not looking good at this stage. Better photo's please.

Definite fake. Was totally obvious as soon as the pic loaded.

Sorry.

Did you get it on ebay with paypal protection? Or reverb? Can you still get your hands on the seller?

Definitely not real, as everyone else said. I have lots of sticks if anyone cares to meet me by the dead horse.
